The Definitive Best Tottenham Eleven

Jennings

Perryman ... England ... King ... Knowles

Blanchflower ... Mackay

White ... Hoddle ... Jones

Greaves

Tougher choices and alternatives:

1. Could pick a specialist right back and put Perryman in the centre alongside England. Then it would be between Kinnear (who I have seen) and Alf Ramsey, who from what I have read was a revolutionary right-back

2. I picked John White as a play-making inside forward to play a narrow role in a modern 4-2-3-1. Bale is excluded as a current player who has yet to peak. For two wingers, though, I would pick Bale and switch Cliff Jones to the right where he often played. Others who could have been include Peters, Ardiles, Gascoigne, and Modric (on the left, switching Jones).

3. I picked Greaves as lone forward, although we have some quality candidates for strikers, from Bobby Smith to Gilzean and Chivers to Archibald & Crooks (an excellent pairing, probably better than the individuals) to Berbatov and our 2013 signing. An alternative would be to play a W-M formation and play Greaves alongside Chivers, with England as the centre-half.

In my time watching Spurs (since 1998/9 - not exactly a brilliant pool):

------------Lloris-----------
Walker-Scumbag-King-Assou
-------Carrick--Modric------
Lennon------VDV-------Bale
----------Berbatov---------

That team would be slick as fudge.

Apart from the two brick full backs that is a very strong team

-------------------Lloris------------------
Carr------Judas------------King-----Ziege
------------Carrick-------Modric----------
Anderton-----------VDV--------------Bale
-----------------Klinsmann--------------

Subs- Robinson, Sheringham, Berbatov, Lennon, Sandro, Kaboul, Davids

in my years:

--------------LLoris

Carr--King--vertonghen--Assou ekotto

----------Sandro---modric--------

Lennon------Van der Vaart-------Bale

---------------Berbatov

Since 1988/9:

Lloris

Carr
King
Mabbutt
Ziege

Waddle
Gascoigne
Modric
Bale

Lineker
Klinsmann

Subs: Campbell, Carrick, Ginola, Anderton, VdV, Sheringham, Berbatov

I've been following Spurs since around the same time and pretty much concur with that selection, although I might begrudgingly put rSol in ahead of Mabbutt.

This is limited to players in my time watching Spurs (since 1990)

Lloris

Carr
King
Campbell
Ziege

Ginola
Gascoigne
Carrick
Bale

Klinsmann
Berbatov

Subs:

Thorsvedt
Mabbutt
Modric
Van der Vaart
Anderton
Sheringham
Lineker

Jennings
Clemence
Carr
Perryman
Hughton
Knowles

King
Vertonghen
Ekotto
Bale
Hoddle
Gazza
Ginola
Waddle
Mabbutt
Greaves
Peters
Chivers
Lineker

No Klinsmann, as he did not play long enough. Two separate spells. Campbell, just no. Sheringham, just misses out. Peters can play as a striker, or as an attacking midfielder. Mabbutt can play as a defensive midfielder or in the centre of defence.
