The best Spurs team of the Premier League era

I think Kaboul was sent off for a really ridiculous reason towards the end wasn't he? Ade had a goal disallowed and just generally Foy was awful all day. We got bumped a few times in 11-12 tbh.

I remember Sturridge's equaliser for Chelsea at WHL after a blatant handball by Ashely Cole in the previous phase of the move before crossing which should have been blown for. The phantom goal by Mata in the semi final that put us 0-2 down and chasing the game. Rose being sent off at Villa when he really slipped into the challenge and Balotelli not being sent off in the City game. Every team can point to decisions over a season but those that I have mentioned along with the Stoke game were really poor decisions that directly influenced the result of each of those games.

He also didn't see a blatant handball from Shawcross from Gallas' goal bound shot, Crouch hanballed for Stoke's first goal. That day was disgusting officiating from Foy...he was making up for the season before in the same fixture, where he disallowed a late Stoke equaliser.

Ah yes. The Crouch almost save on the line with his chest but it being about half a foot over the line? Same game as the Bale wonder strike?

Best as in most skillful - then that team with modric and VDV was it.
Best as in punching above their weight - then its that team that beat Chelsea in the league cup.

That side was great, but King didn't start enough games for us to reach our potential. Having to constantly change our defensive lineup was a major weakness and cost us a lot of points.

I believe the current squad has the potential to be at least as good.

That 2011-12 team amassed 69 points in the Premier League after winning 42 points in the first half of the season.

It failed badly in the last 19 matches, picking-up only 27 points.

The current squad is on track to set a new club Premier League points total, which considering all the turmoil Spurs have suffered this season is quite remarkable.

I therefore suggest that the current Spurs team under Tim Sherwood is the best in the Premier League Era.

Yep. Until early January of that season we consistently produced our most thrilling football since the early 60s. (86/87 was not far off tbf).

Certainly the best since the 80s, we were thrilling, a real joy!

Not that it was our best team, but I enjoyed our 09/10 team. It was the prelude to what was 11/12.

Modric was coming into his own, Bale was rejuvenated, Defoe was at his best, Lennon was arguably the finest he has been, we had silk on top of that with the likes of Kranjcar too, not to mention THAT run in.

If only Capello hadn't resigned when he did... after picking up 53pts from the first 25 games to only manage a further 16pts from the last 13 games... so close and yet so far...

Its really disappointing thats its virtually impossible to build a team these days. Saying that, maybe if we had played in the CL 3 times - which is conceivable - we could have retained the likes of Modric, Bale etc.

Still unlikely however as until we can match 6 figure weekly salaries across the board and genuinely challenge for the league we (as with all clubs outside Chelsea, City and until recently Man Utd) are always going to be susceptible to being picked apart.

THat team really was fantastic. The only thing it lacked was like for like replacements for the speed merchants: whenever Krancjar came on for Lennon for example the team morphed into a completely different outfit.

Yes, it is make or break every season for us until we are a CL regular.
