The best Spurs team of all time - left wing forward

Who is the best left midfield, left wing, left inside forward, left wing forward to play for Spurs?

Bale for us was in a genuine world class and top player in the world bracket

I can't comment on the older players before the 80s but other than Gazza and Hoddle we haven't had a player of that calibre

Waddle for me, we need a dribbler, someone not relying on pace. Let's face it teams are going to sit back against this side, so we don't need bales pace and we have hoddle and Gazza for the 30 yard worldies into the top corner.
Teams sat back against us in Bales last season for us and he didn't do too badly out of it...

This is the one I can't sit on the fence.

Bale for me too. The guy was magic - even towards the very end of the game there was still hope and Bale kept on firing them in. Amazing talent and nice guy too!

i'm a big fan of the kid, incredible player, one of the best in the world, i'm sure he'll win multiple Ballon d'Or's and 5/6 european cups, but, I wouldn't have him over Cliff Jones (who's obviously already in), who to my mind is the greatest winger the game has ever seen

now, at one point, we a pretty talented manager who thought he had found a better fit than Jone's on the left, imagine that, he had the greatest winger in the history of the sport, yet he believed he could make his team better by moving Jones to the opposite flank, and he was right, he slotted this kid in, who scored a hatful of league goals, a crucial goal in the FA Cup final as we won the double, hitherto considered impossible, he then scored two incredible goals in the CWC final as we became the first English side to lift continental silverware

oh, he once scored a hat trick against the scum as well, our only player ever to do that, it could never be said that this man did not turn up in the big games, he was the difference in many of them

it's a rarity in this collection of polls, but this time there is an absolute truth, one correct answer

Terry Dyson

I am with you on Dyson and his value to that team, of all the players he was ( imo) the one who was the most underated but his value was noted by the players who played with him.

However I do not think I can vote for him this time, for me the two best wingers we have had here are Jones ( who is already in the team) and the other one is Waddle, the good think about both of them is that they could and did play both wings and were excellent on both sides.

Said it once and will say it again (and again)... Ginola was nice and flash; typically sexy but - more often than not - a flat track bully, producing magic against the likes of the Barnsley's of the football world but disappearing when the big boys came to town and in the key games.
.

I tend to agree with this about Ginola and his time here. he was a very good player playing in a what was a average ( at best) team and because of that he stood out. He was not in the same Lge as the likes of Jones, Dyson, Waddle Bale and the likes but stood out because of the dross around him at the time.

Would be my thoughts as well.

No - Ginola was exceptional. IMO he would have stood out even more if any of his teammates had been on his level.

The likes of Modric/vdV, Blanchflower/White, Hoddle/Ardiles created platforms for Bale, Jones & Dyson, and Waddle to dance on top of, in a way Ginola never benefitted from

Disagree, he was a very good player in a poor side.

Is this our short list? Are we missing anyone? Should any of these be dropped?

Terry Dyson
Tony Galvin
Ricky Villa
David Ginola
Gareth Bale
Chris Waddle

This covers pretty well everyone. It's between Bale and Ginola for me. I understand why Dyson is also on many fans shortlists although I never saw him play myself.

As Bale was so exceptional in his last 2 years here, he will get my vote

Realistically it's Bale, isn't it? I was a huge Ginola fan when he was with us because - let's face it - he was one of the few high points during a relatively low period for Spurs. But in terms of overall quality, Bale was head and shoulders above Ginola. In fact, after Hoddle I think Bale was probably the best player to turn out for Spurs during my lifetime.

I still wish he'd have committed to Spurs and dedicated himself to being a legend at the club, rather than just another expensive cog in the Real Madrid machine. Not that I blame him for seeking more money and silverware. Can't hold that against him, but I do wish he'd had different priorities.

If we're all in agreement, I will add the poll. I'll leave it an hour or so, to give people a chance to put other names in the frame.
