Good weekend for the club with our U18s winning 1-0 at West Ham on Saturday, the senior team beating Southampton 3-2 at the Lane on Sunday and our U21s winning 1-0 at Middlesbrough tonight.

Boro U21 0-1 Spurs

Giancarlo Gallifuoco struck a late winner as our Under-21s toppled Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Monday night.

The central defender met Ruben Lameiras' cross at the far post to secure maximum points and a second-successive win in the Barclays U21 Premier League.

Filip Lesniak and Nathan Oduwa made full debuts at Under-21 level while Luke McGee started for only the second time.

We enjoyed long spells of possession in the first half but Boro, set-up to break quickly, had the better chances.

We started well but only had 20-yarder from Lameiras to show for it. Oduwa and Coulthirst opened Boro up in the left channel but Oduwa looked for another pass and Coulthirst was crowded out.

The home side then sparked into life with three chances in as many minutes.

The first arrived when we lost possession from a quick free-kick, Boro broke and Ryan Brobbel was sent clear, clipped the ball over the advancing McGee only for Gallifuoco to get back to hack off the line.

Birger Meling then got down the left and picked out Lewis Maloney, whose shot looked on target but Gallifuoco was there again to block.

A minute later Maloney squared from the right for Bradley Fewster, who skied the best chance of the half over from 10 yards.

Coulthirst fired wide from distance and Dominic Ball sent Kenny McEvoy away after a run out of defence, McEvoy found Lameiras but he didn't get a shot off.

Mark Kitching made a chance for himself on 32 minutes with a dribble from deep, beating three players on his way into the box before sliding the ball wide of the far post. He then headed wide from Brobbel's free-kick.

Coulthirst ended the half with a snapshot wide after robbing Burn 30 yards out.

The start of the second half mirrored the first as we enjoyed possession with Coulthirst and Ogilvie firing shots straight at Leutwiler. Laste Dombaxe and Souleymane Coulibaly entered the fray for Winks and McEvoy.

Boro hit back again with two quickfire chances. The first saw Brobbel beat McGee to a ball over the top but the goalkeeper made amends by spreading himself to make the save. Jordan Jones then curled inches wide.

Play switched to the other end and Lameiras drew the first serious save from Leutwiler, a low drive from 22 yards that looked to be creeping home until the goalkeeper touched wide. McGee was forced into similar action on 69 minutes, down to his left to deny Brobbel and Leutwiler had to be sharp to turn away Coulthirst's fierce drive three minutes later.

One goal was always going to win it and we struck with eight minutes remaining. Lameiras received a short free-kick in the right channel and floated in a teasing cross to the far post and Gallifuoco did the rest from eight yards.

Would love to be in London to take advantage of the games that pop up like this

I went to the Premier Academy League Final at WHL in May 2009. It was enjoyable, although we lost 1 nil. There was about 5,000 there. Teams:

Us: Jansson, Smith, Byrne, Cox, Caulker, Butcher, Townsend, Parrett, Rose, Mason, Obika. Subs: Bostock, Kasim, Butler, Kane, Nicholson.

Them: Szczesny, Eastmond, Cruise, Frimpong, Bartley, Ayling, Lansbury, Coquelin, Murphy, Sunu, Thomas. Subs: Evina, Henderson, Shea, Boateng, Watt.

From those two line-ups it's clearly Spurs who have had the most players go-on to make the grade at first team level.

In fact, both Caulker & Townsend have won full England caps.

I think they were missing Wheelchair as he was away with England U17's at the time of this game. He was starting to break through just as Parrett and Bostock were starting to fail.

Tottenham Hotspur were last night given permission to build a 500 seater stand at Hotspur Way by unanimous vote.

I think this is probably the best place to post this as it is regarding one of our previous youth players. John Bostock is playing out in Belgium atm and he was interviewed by the BBC. Not a lot said on his time at Spurs although he does concede that he left Palace too soon and that "you need more than talent" to make it to the top of the game (his words).

I did see him play for us one summer in a pre season tournament at Wembley against Barcelona who fielded a B team that dominated our first team. In the second half Bostock got a run out and for me was the only player we had who looked like they could stand toe to toe with the Barcelona players. Was always suprised it fell apart the way it did.

bostock didnt/couldnt do the other things required to play at the highest level..... like work hard off the ball

Spurs vs Arsenal U21s - Shaq confident

shaq%20730.jpg

Shaq Coulthirst insists our Under-21s are relishing the opportunity to face Arsenal at White Hart Lane.

We host the Gunners in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League on Friday evening – kick-off 7pm.

Shaq, who captained the side in Monday’s 1-0 win at Middlesbrough, says the chance to represent the club in a North London derby at the Lane represents an amazing chance for our youngsters – insisting everyone in the side is prepared to give their all in a bid to topple our rivals in front of our own fans.

“Nobody needs to be told about the importance of the game and what it means to the club and all the players and supporters, so everyone will be ready,” said Shaq, who has made one first team appearance at the Lane this season – coming on as a late substitute in December’s Europa League victory over Anji Makhachkala.

“It’s about our players and our development, but we know Arsenal will be good so we’re ready for anything they’ve got.

“It’s really big for us as players because they’re our biggest rivals and everyone will be up for it. Everyone knows what we have to do.”

It’s been a positive month for our Under-21s on the domestic scene. Monday’s win at Middlesbrough followed a comprehensive 5-2 victory against West Bromwich Albion a fortnight previously.

And Shaq says those results mean we go into Friday’s derby with momentum on our side.

“We had to grind out a good old fashioned 1-0 win against Middlesbrough, but we went into that game with a lot of form from the previous match as well,” he added. “With those results in the bag, we’re confident and ready to go.”

Just as Shaq Coulthirst is featured for tonight's U21 game v Arsenal, he's joined League Two side Torquay United on loan until the end of the season.

Spurs U21 Squad v Arsenal

Jordan Archer, Liam Priestley, Alex McQueen, Vlad Chiriches, Dominic Ball, Kevin Stewart, Giancarlo Gallifuoco, Connor Ogilvie, Milos Veljkovic, Laste Dombaxe, Harry Winks, Nathan Oduwa, Aaron McEneff, Kenneth McEvoy, Souleymane Coulibaly, Ruben Lameiras.

Spurs U18s v Liverpool on Saturday

It’s not just our senior lads travelling to face Liverpool this weekend – our Under-18s are back in action on Saturday morning at the Reds’ academy facility.

We go into the Barclays Under-18 Premier League clash – kick-off 11am – on the back of consecutive 1-0 wins, the latest of which was away at West Ham United last weekend.

John McDermott’s side will be looking to continue that winning trend on Merseyside, ahead of a re-arranged trip to Arsenal in midweek (Wednesday, 11am).

We’ll have the usual coverage on Saturday as we aim to kick off our double-header against the Reds in style!
