Probably the thread for this, but does anyone think if Villa stay up their team will prosper in 2-3 years having had to blood the youth in bulk?
We have some decent prospects coming through, and before we spunk £15m up the wall on a 'creative midfielder' I would like to see Carroll and Ceballos given a fair crack isn't that the point of producing your own youth or is it really to hawk them about on loan and then accept the highest bid from a mid table team.
At least we knew o'hara and luke young weren't good enough as they had a chance, granted it's a massive balancing act and a huge risk but if it pays off you tend to get loyalty (c**Tbell - the exception) and if they are good enough they are always backed more forgivingly by the fans and if they do leave it's a massive margin pay day.
I think 10-15 consecutive games is enough to judge a payers suitability to first class football, a mix of opponents, styles and scenarios. 10 minutes cameos are great for highlighting statistics but sometimes the only test is in at the deep end. Don't forget Bale only got a regular run because Ekotto was out injured... time to try and realise some potentials!! (Well maybe the beginning of next season 8-[)
