Ten reason why we won't make 4th place

Yes and in a direct fight with them I wouldn't back us; i'd be more confident if it was a 3/4 way chase like iktb was in 2010. We brick ourselves when we go directly up against a big 4 club for one spot (especially if thatb team is L'Arse)

we flopped out last season when we had a fantastic attacking unit, why would a new striker now make any difference if it's all down to mentality?

well, as has been said Everton have a horrible run coming up so I expect them to drop away, arsenal may pip us as thats the way the universe seems to be, that leaves chelsea and liverpool as the only viable threats to 4th place, one have a good manager whom the fans and old guard in the dressing room have undermined, and the other have a blackpool cabaret act in charge

Chelsea are 4 points clear of us rigt now in their bad patch; if Arsenal pip us as you expect that leaves us 5th at best

I'd love it if Rafa bring a third consecutive club down to 6/7th place.

But they are a shambles and STILL 4 points clear of us; they'll eventually click and I don't think we have to squad to take advantage now when tehy are weak

Wait, why do you assume they will eventually click, yet you don't think we will?

Glass half full perhaps?

i think chelsea's bad patch is just getting going, they were 6 points clear of us at about 21:40 on wednesday, 5 minutes later we already in our match day suits and 2 points closer to them, the wheels have worked loose, the next bump in the road and they'll fly off, get the popcorn ready its gonna be spectacular

We were ten points clear and we flopped because of Harry's mismanagement of the squad (or should i say lack of abilty to manage a sqaud as oppose to the fisrt team). We are overall better prepared but our squad attacking wise is weaker; this year those who attack best are doing better than those more solid but lacking that extra attacking verve.
I also don't trust us in a straight club v club chase for one particulat place. If Everton and even Liverpool could be in the race as well as Arsenal and we werre always a point or two ahead i'd trust us more to sneak in throug the crowd. Arsenal have the mengtality to do what it takes in tnis part of te seaon.

Hope tobe proved wrong though..where's our own Uncle Mike eh?

Hopefully the viva la france lot can cause them some issues at the weekend.

Just returned to the internet, and surprise, surprise, we haven't signed anyone.

Last season, we failed to strengthen when we were ten points ahead of everyone else and catastrophically flamed out over the course of the campaign.

This season, we have again failed to strengthen, despite having just drawn three and lost one of our last four games, with vulnerabilities starting to appear throughout the squad. Holtby solves one problem; sadly, Sandro's injury created another, meaning we've still gained little. And the long-standing striker issue, which one would have hoped would be solved by now, drags on. Damiao has eluded our grasp once again, and why we keep chasing after him like reckless, desperate stalkers is beyond me. Dignity, goddamnit.

In short, we have solved little during this transfer window, despite being in a position of opportunity. And while my support for the team will remain, any hope I may feel between now and the end of the season will necessarily have to be clamped down on with an iron fist, and locked away in a dark little corner of my mind with the raving ramblings of last season's high hopes. It didn't have to be this way, Daniel. It really didn't.

Sigh.

But we're not stronger though. Sandro is out for the season and Parker is not close to his ability. Ade is in Africa. Defoe is injured and out of form.

We are weaker than befor Christmas.

Oh, and we've lost our wing cover in Townsend to make sure we have o wingers to replace the inevitable injuries to bale or Lennon like as what has happend and fudged us the past 2 seasons.

we have strengthened and we have potentially solved problems we were having in the creative department in midfield, in the purchase of Holtby.

it's not as much as we all wanted but it is an improvement in important areas nonetheless

except we have strengthened

But we have not strengthened in the area that 90% of us have agreed is what has held us back for several seasons now; the striker department. Also, do you not worry we will suffer in a big way now that Sandro is out? Signs are there for al to see that we are more vulnerable whilst Parker tries his best to protect the defence like Sandro does

No point getting angry about anything, all we can do is get behind the players and hope they give their best.

It's still in our own hands. The NLD derby will be crucial.

We really haven't. Holtby came in, but Sandro's out. One problem solved, another problem created.

We're still in the red on the 'problems' side, especially considering our striking woes.

So how have we strengthened? If AVB gets us to 4th place with this squad as it currently stands, it will have been a monumental feat,I feel distinctly like it'll be one of our greatest seasons ever considering how little he's been given to work with.

On paper we have strengthened, but injuries have weakened us and we were playing better than the sum of our parts.

Sandro gets injured - Scot Parker comes in, that's generally how most teams operate. there aren't many that will go out and buy a 3rd player to back up the back up  it's a step down in quality, but let's not forget Parker was a huge player for us last season and with a run of games could get back to that level im sure

we signed two players last summer who scored 34 goals and assisted a further 18 in the league last season - this season they haven't lived up to their ability, but we can't write these players off - and nor should we, every chance Adebayor can come back from the ACN revitalized, Im sure once we get him playing in his favored lone forward role (with Holtby in behind) this will will speed up his regaining of form.
