Squad

I see a lot of idiots on X complaining we should have left Kinsky out for Tel....

It's harsh on Tel, but someone had to miss out. Hopefully he gets game time in domestic cups and league appearances

Gets me wondering whether UEFA and the country FA's can compromise and meet somewhere in the middle on the quota rules.

I quite like UEFA's classification of club and association trained within the overall homegrown . It drives the right behaviour from the clubs. I don't like the way they classify Davies though. If you hold a British passport and have played as long as Ben has in any of the UK leagues then you shouldn't be told by UEFA that you're not homegrown. That is wrong, as it was with Dier who got 50 caps for his country and spent most of it in the PL. There should be a conversion process to association trained after you've served your time. Swansea and Cardiff even play in the English system. Ironically you can be foreign and have 3 years as an U21 and have a more palatable status than Ben in UEFA terms.

I think there might even be a case for UEFA to allow each club to name one or maybe two U21s in the B-list that haven't completed 2 years registration. You don't want more than that though.

On reflection, so much of this is on our own club though. It will be even harder at the end of January to fit everyone into the UEFA squad if we progress into the knockouts.

I definitely don't have all the answers but do feel the disconnect between the systems.

Davies is considered at now. They changed the rules.

Hindsight and I dunno if he would have accepted it

But KWP in on a one year deal would have given us another head at the back

Drop Davies out and get Tel in.

It's only 8 games, it's not the end of the world

So if vicario gets an injury tomorrow that has him out till jan you'd be fine with austin and gunter for our cl games?
Austin is emergency. Gunter is developing.
6 games. Say 1/100 chance a GK gets injured. Isnt the definition of emergency? Exactly what Austin is here for

If I digest this further, I think there is relevance to Odobert playing number 10 behind Tel for the French U21s. I reckon it is that string to his bow that has shaded his inclusion over Tel. I don't see it as a sign that Odobert is better than Tel. I think it is a tactical decision by Frank.

Odobert just balances the squad whilst Madds and Kulu recuperate. He can come on for Simons when we're chasing games. Sarr or Bergval can also come on when we're protecting leads and have attacking prowess.

I feel for the kid but only as much as Takai. He is a Japanese international and has played 3 full seasons in Japan's top league. People just assume Davies has to be included. I just see another old head blocking the path of a talented youngster at Spurs again. To dare is to do right?

I think you have to understand the psyche of goalkeepers on this one. The 3 of them are a unit that train together every day. 2 of them will be on the bench every game and the other one will be travelling with the squad in every game for the entire season. They are a goalkeeping unit that need to stay together in my opinion.

Is there any other clubs in the competition that have only included 2 senior keepers and worked on the basis that UEFA will let them substitute in another keeper in a crisis? Do we even know the rules on when you can and cannot get special dispensation? It's not the worst idea to go with 2 keepers if your U21 is highly rated. Gunter was in the Vanarama last season.

In the Euros Odobert mostly played on the right (and did not impress) not the 10. Not sure if he has otherwise played the 10 for the U21s though.

Interestingly, not the way it was reported. Odobert got credit for his performances in behind Tel.

You may have seen the games though and know more. Wouldn't be the first time the press have watched a different game to genuine football people and written any narrative that sells papers.
