They don't play until tomorrow tea time
There was a piece in the guardian last week saying around 3% of corners result in goals. I don't have the link to hand, but it's a good read. Riveting.

Interesting to see how far forward Winks played before he went off. I wonder if Dembele plays that far advanced in that role?
FWIW, thats 3% of corners that are converted into goals on average... in West Brom's case they've converted 14 of their 119 corners into goals; which makes up 36% of their entire Premier League goal tally for this season! So that tells us 97% of goals don't come from corners, unless you have an exceptional header of the ball corner offer you a 50/50 chance of winning the ball let alone getting it on target. I still believe the ball to the near post is our best chance of scoring from corners but it's difficult to get it right, the height and pace of the cross must be perfect to match the run of the player while all the grabbing and pushing goes on.

I obviously wouldn't want to watch Pulis-ball every week but I respect the fact that he has developed a highly effective system which all but guarantees whichever club he manages won't be relegated from the from the top flight; West Brom have only the 17th biggest revenue in the division but are punching well above their financial weight and are comfortably sat in 8th place. The WBA stat just confirms what most people know, they don't play football and have strength in the air. I would rather watch us play with our fluid style than increase our goal return from corners playing non football.

The two things aren't necessarily mutually exclusive though. We don't exactly have a team that is small or poor in the air. Kane, Dele, Toby, Verts, Dier, Dembele are all big units. Put the ball in the mixer, let them run from the edge of the area in different directions and I would almost guarantee our goal output from corners would increase without affecting in any way the style of football we play.

A tip - don't believe anything you read in the Grauniad! Just from this admittedly small sample of games on MOTD tonight there were at least three goals scored from corners. And that is from a sample of games where very few goals were scored -only 15 in total out of 8 games Two games ended 0-0. So three goals out of 15 from corners. I make that 20% of goals scored today.
How many teams are there where neither central defender has scored from a corner or free kick all season? How many corners and free kicks from crossing positions have we had this season? I am delighted we scored from one and even more pleased that Eriksen got it over the first man for a change. I just wish it happened more often to give our big units a chance, that is all.
Thanks for the clarification. Corners are often exciting and disappointing in equal measure. I have to assume that as with all things Poch evaluates the strategy from corners and decides what is best. If we as fans want to really enjoy corners perhaps we should develop a love for West Brom! You have misinterpreted the stat. It said 3% of corners result in a goal and not that 3% of goals come from corners.
I have been unable to find the data of the number of corners there were in the Premier League yesterday but have used the data here
http://www.footcharts.co.uk/index.cfm?task=basics_corners
to calculate that there have been on average 10.8 corners per game in the Premier League this season. There were eight Premier League games yesterday, which if they were in line with the average for the season, would give us a total of about 82.5 corners. If you are right that there were three goals coming from corners yesterday, 3 divided by 82.5 give you 0.036 which is 3.6% of corners yesterday resulted in a goal. Slightly above the Guardian figure that @90291Spur quoted but certainly close and within natural variation before we take some my assumptions into account.
