Sports Personality 2013

I see the Beeb are announcing their shortlist of 10 on Tuesday for this years 60th Awards night.

Surely it will be Andy Murray wont it?

Such a shame Laura Trott hasnt done a lot this year, because I think she should get it...but thats another story....

I think it should go to whomever at the bbc manages to come up with a list of 10. As you say Murray is the obvious choice but I can't think of anyone else who has done anything.

Same here. No really standouts in any other sport that I can think of apart from Chris Froome

froome is definitely the next name, but he had a poor world championships and his TDF win was a foregon conclusion, an average year for him I'd say, especially in contrast to his team mates 2012 performance

This could restart the 'Its not a sport' debate, but I think Phil Taylor will make the shortlist, still the current World Champion and has won a shedload of other tournaments this year.
Not saying he will/should win it, just think he will make the 10

I agree on Taylor, he's only been ignored because Olly Croft had some former influence at BBC sport, it's a crime Phil hasn't won it but he's not dominating like he was 5/6 years ago so it would be a little sad if he was given it now as a token gesture rather than back then when he was genuinely the top British sportsman.

It needs to lose the word personality from its title, it should be sportsperson who did well in the year award

Bang on the money, used to say that years ago.

For me, if it truly was based on personality there would be a lot of previous winners who would not have got near to the title.

Probably should be called Sports Achievement of the Year, or as you rightly suggest Sportsperson of the Year
