1 trillion in debt

Embarrassing. They really are the scum of the earth. Let's blame governments rampant overspending on the rich. Clueless mongs.

STOP SPENDING MONEY WE CANNOT AFFORD YOU fudgeWITS

I can see this happening if Labour ever get back to power and are allowed to *struggle cuddle* our country again.

France's highest court on Saturday blocked a move by Francois Hollande's socialist government to impose a 75pc tax rate on people earning over €1m (£820,000), calling it unfair.

The constitutional court said the controversial wealth tax was designed in a way that was unconstitutional, as it could leave two households with the same income paying different rates depending on how earnings were split among their members.

However the setback to Mr Hollande's flagship policy is unlikely to draw an end to the row over the government’s attitudes to wealth, as ministers pledged to redraft and resubmit the proposal.

French prime minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said that the government “takes note” of the court's decision and “will present a new proposal in line with the principles laid down by the constitutional court.”

The planned tax rate is seen as largely symbolic. It is expected to bring in around €300m a year, which will not amount to much in the effort to reduce France's budget deficit.

None the less, it has become the focus of concern among France's wealthy and its entrepreneurs, some of whom have left the country.

In recent weeks, Russian president Vladimir Putin offered a passport to France’s most famous actor Gerard Depardieu, who has accused his own country of punishing success and has threatened to depart over the tax plans.

Separately, Alain Afflelou, the French optician chain tycoon, said earlier this month he was moving to London, although he denied it was linked to the tax issue.

Meanwhile Bernard Arnault, France’s richest man, is waiting to hear the outcome of his application for Belgian nationality.

So the rampant government overspending came from who...? Not the socialists mate, they have only been in power for twelves months. Why not place blames where it belongs on the previous right wing regime. As for Depardieu, many people would think his imminent departure is almost a complete justification of the new tax rates, as the man is a complete toss stain.

All politicians, frankly, despite political persuasion. They are all scumbags spending money that is NOT theirs

However, the ANSWER to the problem is clearly NOT to increase tax to 75%

That's macaronic, and the point of the post

Yeah, that's why capitalism is so great - it will always reward the hard workers. \o/

my sentiment exactly, socialism may not be a perfect system but capitalism is at least as brick if not more-so.
makes me laugh when people hold it up as a success TBH

:ross:

It's the only system. It's human nature.

You can constrain human nature with mass murder in order to instill some form of communism but it never works long term. Real, long-term socialism without the threat of the death penalty is nothing but a dream for hippies and people with no understanding of economics.

Usually the people living on houseboats and living on benefits, benefits paid for by the people who work, work in the capitalist system.

*yawn*

For every 1 company you can find exploiting the world, I can post 99 that are making a positive impact

And it's a shame our governments don't act more like true capitalist businesses in the world

Those business realise that if you spend more than your revenues, for decades on end, you eventually go bust

Every single government in the world continues to contribute to the fiscal misery the world finds itself in

Here are the "cuts" being made by major governments swimming in debt that they cannot afford (and that we, and our kids, and our grandkids will be paying off):

US - 0.7%
Italy - 1.7%
UK - 1.3%
France - 0%
Germany - 0%

All these governments spend more than they earn, yet are making almost no effort to balance the books.

More capitalist behaviour would get us out of the brick!!! But it wont happen.

Politicians are leeches. Like trade union bosses, households in Liverpool and socialists.

Imagine you ran your household in the same way?

Let's remove the zeros from all those big numbers, and make it look like your annual earnings and spending:

UK
Revenue = £28K
Spending = £34K
Debt = £58K
Cuts = £442 (e.g. you've given up your season ticket, congratulations for trying to live within your means)

USA
Revenue = $23K
Spending = $36K
Debt = $113K
Cuts = $240

How long could you sustain your household with spending like this? 1 year? 10 years? 100 years? 3 months?

The debt has to be paid one day.

Yeah Clement Attlee butchered thousands didn't he? Ha,ha! :ross:

Perhaps we should rename this thread the Leeds Spur Memorial Thread in his honour. After all, it's exactly the sort of rubbish he used to post in exactly the same style he used to post (plenty of copy & paste and links that prove he's right), it's almost as if he was using someone else's log in to get around the ban.

As posted above, socialism is a barrier to development and we are not just talking about the accumulation of wealth (capitalism) but other areas such as art, technology, knowledge, society.

I honestly do love you gordi i really truely admire you, we differ a little in our political beliefs but you are always so cool and to the point i said it before but if my son grew up to be man like you i would be proud.

The poster above was suggesting socialism as an alternative to capitalism - Attlee just stole the proceeds of capitalism. It also was proven long-term to be a complete failure. That's why everything ended up having to be privatised.

The level of ignorance is shocking, but unsurprising

Proven financial statistics = rubbish

:ross:

2 x 2 does not equal 4 eh?

Oh dear. Enjoy the recession(s) for the next few years guys.

Personally, I think it will take at least two DECADES (yes, >20 years) to clean up the mess.

The tories are not doing enough. Nobody is willing to take the medicine. (at least not in their lifetime)

But you can probably double that number again, if Labour come to power.
