So, what happened today?

Oh this is tragic, so incredibly sad.
Can’t imagine what his family are feeling, especially the granddad who was with him when he ran off. Awful.

I struggle with the outrage. I have a daughter, I am acutely aware of the importance of respect for women, their bodies and as a lover of sport in general, I marvel at the graft of all athletes. The pain, the sweat, the single-mindedness required to be among the best. I have grown up with scores of female athletes I consider role models. I naturally also notice 'beauty' in it's varying forms. A pretty lady, a strong lady, an incredible athlete, a winner etc... I've also grown up with scores of female athletes championing their bodies. Be they Heptathletes, runners, shot putters, Javelin throwers, footballers, rugby players, surfers, tennis players etc. I judged those athletes on the positive message that accompanied the images.

Some ads, some genres, I struggle with. I just think they can be trashy, demeaning or without any positive benefit. It is, however, incredibly subjective. I grew up, rarely far from a beach and my teenage World was full of bikini-clad beauties. Every other page in a surfing mag was adorned with these images. Some adorned my walls! Yet, years later, I'm troubled seeing young girls, needing sponsorship, to get on tour, often having these as one of their only outlets. You either have to the very best or the prettiest.

I hate betting companies (unless my horse comes in...). I don't know who the lady is but she is not a sportsperson or athlete and nor is she pretending to be. She isn't even trying to pass herself off as one. It is just that atypical male-oriented advertising, to a largely young male audience, of a good-looking lady, with a few brick sporty props. It is tired, seen a thousand times before and the mock outrage has only elevated the campaign. If an athlete gets her kit off for some soft porn rag I'd expect there to be some noise. I can't actually fathom why a female athlete would take offence at an actress in the buff posing with a few props. Did anyone really think she was trying to look like an athlete perched on a basketball hoop??

That's because the arse fell out of the corporate surf world (laughable really given it's popularity. Mismanagement). Even some of the guys on the CT struggle to get a main sponsor.

Good luck, I went to a couple of Trotskyist meetings in the 60's they were full of people who hated one another and were there for an argument.
Naomi Klien was at mine. Pleasantly surprised to see Michael D Higgins there too. Lots of love and determination was the order of the day.

Picked up keys for my first house yesterday (I couldn't find the "what happened yesterday" thread).

If I can stay here for the rest of my life, to avoid having to deal with solicitors / estate agents / mortgage brokers ever again I will! What a bizarre industry. Waiting for completion yesterday, slightly nervy as I'd booked furniture to be delivered today and wanted to get downstairs painted over the weekend.

I called the estate agent on my break and they say:
"We haven't heard anything from your solicitor"

So I say "Ah okay, should I chase them up?"

"Oh no it's fine I'll do it now"

It's like these people are just sitting down eating sandwiches / scratching their arse waiting to be pestered and then they might do something. Super odd.

But it's over now at least, GG house party at mine if we win a game this season?

Nice work fella!

The whole house moving thingy is such a dog brick process.

I met this woman a couple of months ago, and of course there's not really anything special about boy meets girl and everything is fudging ecstatic, but it is to me! I've felt worthless for three years and suddenly this amazing person appears and just turns my life upside down. Someone that sees you and appreciates you for who you are, who you can then just truly be yourself around, and sort of release a lot of closed away brick. Vitality, all of a sudden. She's just gorgeous, so fun to be with, she's clever and creative, and we have all these absurdly specific things in common - ah, I honestly think I'm properly in love for the first time in my life! Never really knew what people meant by that until now, I think. Just amazing. Still early days, but I really hope (and think) this one will stick. A fun little side note; she had never heard of Tottenham! And she's 38! Haha. Bless her pure soul. I'm sad I will inevitably be tarnishing it by dragging her into this mess.

For the years I've known you on here, I've never thought you as worthless mate. Yeah, I know we all view ourselves differently, but your posts have always added to the forum, even during times things weren't going so well for you.

Fingers crossed the universe has just dealt you a lovely hand!

Thank you so much, mate! You have indeed been someone who has supported me on here, even in my hours of darkness, and I much appreciate it! You're a kind soul. :)

A comedian made a joke about how women at the gym are wearing increasingly smaller and tighter outfits. Many are reacting as if this were some outrageous attack, immediately labeling it "misogyny" when someone simply describes what they see.

Shane Gillis did something entirely innocent and obvious: he pointed out that many women at the gym now wear shorts so tight and short that the seam practically disappears between their buttocks—in colors that look like artificial fishing bait. He remarked that it looks like "kitten clothing," and that men aren't even allowed to glance. It’s a joke, but it lands because it describes a reality that almost anyone who has been to a gym in recent years recognizes.

Yet, so many women react as if he has committed an assault. They call it misogyny, "rape culture," and claim that "all men" are the problem. At the same time, these very outfits—sports bras and skimpy shorts—are being filmed and posted on TikTok specifically to garner likes and attract gazes. The outfit is a choice; the attention is desired. But when that attention comes from men who actually notice, the narrative suddenly shifts from "look at me" to "how dare you look."

It is a fairly simple logic that many refuse to acknowledge. You dress to be noticed, you pose and film yourself, and then you accuse those who do exactly what you invited them to do. It isn't men who created this situation; rather, it is a pattern where people want the benefits of showing off their bodies, but none of the consequences of someone actually seeing them. And when someone speaks up about it, the reaction is not to consider whether the outfit is actually as neutral as claimed, but rather to condemn the person who points it out.

It is not the men who are "sick" for noticing this; rather, it is the utter refusal to take ownership of one’s own choices that becomes nauseating.
