So, what happened today?

Haven’t been offered the job yet
Although they want a second interview tonight
It’s for danish company who are very very big in my field and it’s a very senior role so a great step for me

what I’m trying to work out is with pension constributions what my take home would be

Employer and Employee contributions all via salary sacrifice (ie pre tax) presumably? I’ve got a spreadsheet I put together where I worked it all backwards from a then current payslip to then work out how much more I could afford to contribute. But I’m away for a couple of weeks so that probably won’t be of much use. If you still need it then happy to share the calcs when I’m back. You’d need to know other benefits as well to get the full picture. Eg Some salary sacrifice are tax free but still attract NI.

That may well be very helpful

I’ll see how the next convo goes

I'd say that if you are worried about small percentages, and close comparisons, then don't worry about them much at all. Focus on whether the job is right, and the security of having a perm role rather than contracting.

Sounds like you earn a fudgeton of money anyway, so don't focus on the exact amount, as long as it is PLENTY then focus on other things such as security, relationships, how it will look on your CV and more than anything else, the opportunity to do well and get promotions and progress.

It’s a well paid job no doubt
I’ve been contracting for 11 years and this would be a drop of about 30% still but it has security ish and other benefits
I’ve had 2 interviews today for it as they wanted the second one quickly
Final one is next Friday then a decision to be made by me as they have pretty much made their minds up
I’m looking at it as an opportunity to plough a load of money into a pension
It’s bonkers right now trying to get people in
I’m working in a contract that doesn’t finish until April next year and I’m having to recruit several people and can’t even get CVs

I pulled the last two of my four buxom cannibis plants and hung them up to dry in the garden shed today.

These were only the bottom 3-4 feet or so. The upper 2-3 feet were clipped off two weeks ago and sent to dry out. I let the buds on the bottom half have a little more development time and you could see them fill out nicely.

Two sativa, two indica-sativa hybrids.

Also dug up the last batch of purple potatoes grown in the backyard potato box. Snagged a couple of dozen in varied sizes. Another week or so and the remaining green tomatoes and sweet peppers will be plucked and used to make a traditional French Canadian green relish my wife's family have enjoyed for decades.

Enjoyed an insouciant Niagara rose wine today at lunch, after which I finished reading Flashman and The Mountain of Light. Part of a hugely enjoyable and - nowadays - totally PC incorrect series of books. The hero, Harry Flashman, is the bully from Tom Brown's Schooldays, from which author George MacDonald Fraser simply extrapolated his life after being expelled from Rugby school for drunkeness and bundled off to join the British Army in the 1800s. Part of a 12 book bestselling series about the cad, coward and rampant womanizer in his travels and travails from Balaclava to Khyber Pass. I have 'em all and still enjoy re-reading them.

Just read the meters and am £1600 in arrears.
Estimated readings were based on the year we lived elsewhere whilst the the house was renovated. To be fair we’ve been paying £30 a month gas and electric for two years.

That calculator is pretty accurate, was within £5 of my take home.

I’ve used it before
Not sur how well it works out pension deductions and tax relief though that you have to claim vs your self assessment

Most companies allow you to contribute via salary sacrifice so if they also do this then you wouldn't have to claim anything back. At worst you'll get basic tax rate relief through payroll and you'd claim the extra 20% via self assessment.

Yep
That’s the plan

Any news?

Any news?
Had another interview yesterday but their HR team forgot to send me the case study

this time they went through my Korn Ferry test resist. Fair to say they don’t reflect me at all. The HR guy jumpe don the fact they say I’m not trusted and not a go to person. I had to remind him they came to me for the job. Even the CPO said that doesn’t reflect what they have seen in the conversations we have had to date, which for me shows the issue with those kind of things

so now for a follow up Tuesday night. They did say their interviewing others but if they are I’d be intrigued as to know who. In my world there are a lot of brick people who talk the talk and I’ve met most of them. The better people are more well known and don’t tend to move too much. And they would at CBRE who are the world leader in this area (I know the team there)
Will be interesting now to see where this goes

Good luck

And a new provider
Our bills went up by almost £2k on the new contract we were offered. It’s a big house but that seemed crazy to me
I’ve switched to utilities warehouse and comparably to the deal I was offered I’m better off
If you were coming off your fixed deal they could only increase your bill by the maximum of the new price cap as of Oct 1st.

Moving to a new provider (ie new customer contract) allows them to charge what they want and would likely reflect the massive increase in the wholesale gas prices. Obviously they would want to be competitive but that's if they actually want new customers. Many are probably glad to get rid of customers who they are supplying gas to at a lower price than they are paying themselves.

It's a mess. With winter round the corner, it's a horrible situation for those on low incomes or benefits often on PAYG meters as well

Yep
The new max is almost double what we were paying

First proper months pay as a contractor and got absolutely fudging smashed by emergency tax, cheers for that !!!
I've just signed up with an accountant and he thinks there has been lots wrong with my tax for a few years now, hopefully he can sort it with HMRC

Makes me laugh that they make important decisions based on these stupid tests

The 2 directors were a little embarrassed by it and had to keep on interjecting
Doing the presentation on tues day and then see
I’ve not gone for a perm job in a long while. I get offered them regularly by companies I’m working for so this is a new ish experience
