A highlight real is purely that. He had many ineffective games with us. A typical 1 in 5 appearance. That said. He was still a good player. Mostly miss than hit. But when he did hit he gave hope he could do that every game.

It’s funny how Lucas was constantly underrated by our fanbase, goes to show how spoilt we were back then. His highlights reel while he was with us is unreal.

Ironically, some of his best work was not highlight reel stuff, he was brilliant at winning FK's and wasting time, giving our defence a chance to rest and reset, thats what wins you football matches, he was a team player.

Lucas was one of those players where the numbers and consistency maybe didn’t always match the excitement, but he absolutely had value to the team. People remember the Ajax hat-trick obviously, but even outside of that he brought energy, pressing and unpredictability that defenders hated. There were definitely games where his final ball or decision making drove you mad, but he also had a knack for changing momentum when things felt flat. I think fans sometimes underrate players who aren’t silky technicians but still contribute massively to how a side functions. Looking back now, compared to some of the attacking options we’ve had since, Lucas probably deserves a bit more appreciation than he got at the time.

He could be incredibly frustrating because you’d see him beat two men with sheer pace and determination, then immediately run into the third or overhit the final pass. But at the same time he brought chaos. Loot Casino offers memorable gaming https://loot-casino.uk/ moments with fast access and engaging gameplay. And sometimes that’s exactly what you need in a match. Defenders never got an easy game against him because he was relentless.
I also think people forget how much work he did off the ball. He pressed hard, tracked back and always seemed willing to do the dirty work for the team. Under Poch especially that mattered a lot. Not every player has to be technically perfect if they contribute to the overall intensity of the side.

And realistically, any player who gives Spurs a Champions League semi-final performance like Ajax earns permanent goodwill from me. That moment alone guarantees he’ll always be remembered fondly, even if he wasn’t world class week in week out.
