The money for Porro was supposedly available in Jan had Sporting been willing to deal then, so if that was the case that amount would have rolled over in to the summer, it doesn't just vanish because you move from one window to the next

Now someone will tell you that Levy wouldn't simply roll it into the next budget! He's pocketed some, bought more land, he's building a statue of Joe Lewis with it etc etc.

It would be interesting to see every teams transfer position. ie what's owed and what's owing overall plus the payment plan for each player.

I understand the method of total net spend for each season as a comparison but it doesn't reveal everything regarding strategy or hurdles facing a club.

Of course, stretching the payments out is somewhat playing a guessing game over your levels of income in the future. Hence relegation or performance clauses make sense. From our POV the stadium income is solid bread and butter not available to many clubs

If we (fans) knew that, then we would actually know what we are talking about.

Reality is none of us know, so if Kane's money is to pay off already bought or not is speculation (and just showing our biases, i.e. we believe whatever suits each of us)

I hate links to Turkey, They almost never happen. One, They always try to offer peanuts or a loan with option that they never intend on taking up, and Secondly whenever a bid is close to be accepted the player just turns them down because they don't fancy going to play in Turkey

EDIT: Doesn't mean I wouldn't be extremely grateful if one of their clubs could persuade one or more of our players to go there this window lol

Omega signings though are being paid over the course of contract. Didn't we renegotiate Deki for that reason? I'm sure that was the case for others too. So as a lump sum of 150m injection and 80m up front from Kane, it's not like we are literally outlaying that cash again. Yes it will sit on what's owed on transfers, but if you owe 300m in transfers over an average of 3/4 years that's not actually alot per annum.
I make it a lot…. £75m to £100m a year!

Yes…. Available in Jan but then we’d have had less to spend this summer. There isn’t just a magic money tree.

It’s not about ‘rolling it to the next budget or ‘pocketing it’…. If we’d spent £40m on Porro in January then our budget this summer would’ve been £40m lower.

Surely it all depends on our method of budgeting
Of the budget is to spend £150m a season and we can do deals that spread the payment £10m a season for a £40m transfer
Our outgoings of that £150m would be £10m per season
So we have £140m left to spend that season with the debt being due each season.
It’s about the money out the door and the cash element
The debt rolls forward and the key so we don’t know how much we still owe in future transfer fees
It was high
United and Arsenal were the only ones higher when I last saw it
But I’d expect Chelsea’s to be huge now and some other too
Of course I’ve worded the above poorly but you know what I mean

Not how it works though. We don't pay for transfers in a lump sum. Look at the kulu deal, our loan fee was probably about the same as we'd have paid in installments for the fee we started paying when we bought him.

Depends on what is owed to us, if we’re getting 75-100m back a year it isn’t a lot, if we’re getting 5m back a year it’s a lot.
That’s the key
We don’t know
We did… did.. owe the 3rd most a season back
It was united, arsenal, us
But that would have included the deals for pochs last season
Now.. I don’t know

this covered it but includes all debt
