Right to buy

I think most people would, because most people are capitalist in nature. It's when self proclaimed socialists pull brick like this that winds me up, because it's hypocrisy to the extreme.

Why?

If everyone else is doing it, they'd be stupid not to. Forget how they think the system should work, they shouldnt have to miss out when everyone else is gaining. But thats entirely different to their overall stance.

I'm sure it works the other way as well, I'm 100% positive you (and all of your tory boys on this forum) are also guilty of the same sort of hypocrisy at some point. You use the system available, doesnt mean you cant think a different system would be much better.

Agreed, I adhere to all the laws of the land and government of the day's policies whether I agree with (or voted for) them or not, I don't cherry pick. By the same token it's only right to take advantage of any loopholes that may present themselves. It's called pragmatism.

I will use my house to enable my parents to get the mortgage at there age, without it I don't think they will get a mortgage for 20k when they are on govenment pensions. Basically I become a guarantor on there mortgage by using the value of my home.

I also pay off the mortgage.... as quick as possible.

Wouldn't it be more straightforward just to remortgage your house for the required amount and hand them the money to pay for the house in cash? Far less complicated and will probably achieve a better mortgage rate. Just a thought. And GHod forbid that anything should happen to them any time soon but they change their will to ensure the house goes to you should the worst happen within five years.

Ah takes me back about 6 years working as a mortgage advisor and trying to help people avoid IHT and then highlighting CHT, a true mind field.

My Dad has recently been dealing with trying to help my Grandparents estate in order. To avoid IHT he has purchased a few items such as high end guitars, which over a long term can appreciate quite a lot. These are then things that I will likely inherit in 20-30 years or hopefully longer!

Because I believe people should practice what they preach. Socialism is about putting society before individual needs. Socialists don't play the system out of principal. Socialists aren't about personal gain. Socialists are all about spreading the wealth (I wonder how many socialists could win a million and give it all away to redistribute the wealth....) Or at least that is what they preach....

A true socialist would do what is right for the country and NOT take advantage of loopholes.

My mum has been a tenant for 33 years......Labour capped the discount and in Hertsmere the housing association only gave a maximum ?ú16k discount!

Me and my sister are looking into buy her house.......what is the maximum discount now? I reckon her house is worth ?ú200k.....(which is mental because it's tiny!)

I'll consider any profit I make as a rebate on excessive taxes paid.
