Agree mostly with this although I'd give Vertonghen a 6, Lennon a 5 and Soldado a 7.

Match ratings vs Southampton

Naughton - 4 (At fault for both goals)
Vertonghen - 6.5 (Generally decent)
Kaboul - 6 (decent but had shaky moments)

lennon - 5 (Invisible)
Benteleb - 5.5 (Can't play as the cm that sits...simply can't do it)
Dembele - 5.5 (Obviously carrying an injury)
Eriksen - 8.5 (brilliant)

Chadli - 7.5 (another good game from Chadli...keep him centrally)
Soldado - 7.5 (Good game, worked hard)

Subs

Siggy - 7.5 (worked hard, was involved)
Townsend - 6 (Tried)

Re: Match ratings vs Southampton

Lloris - 7 - Fantastic save and looked calm and composed when needed
Naughton - 4 - A game he'll want to forget with some sloppy play leading to both their goals
Kaboul - 6 - The best of our defenders, but still shaky
Vertonghen - 5 - Got done on quite a few occasions by Lambert, who had the better of him all game
Rose - 5 - Shaky defensively, ok going forward in the 2nd half, but poor all round in the first

Lennon - 6 - Improved in the second half, as did the whole team
Bentaleb - 6 - Looked the most composed of our midfielders, but being a DM isn't really his bag)
Dembele - 6 - Looked short of fitness

Eriksen - 9 - MOTM - the guy is quality, apart from his goals, his intelligence, ball control and skill is just unmatched in our squad
Soldado - 7 - Was poor first half, don't know what was said at half-time, but he clearly got the message, he started making runs, holding the ball up, he looked like a Premiership forward. Good 2nd half.
Chadli - 8 - Starting to really like this guy, a good display from him, always looked a threat.

Subs

Siggy - 8 - Did what you want your subs to do, change the game, link up, get involved and score a cracking winning goal
Townsend - 6 - Didn't do much, but won a few free kicks

Lloris 6.5 - good save from Lallana 1st half

Naughton 4 - cost us two goals
Kaboul 7 - strong
Vertonghen 6 - ok
Rose 5 - terrible crossing, passing not that much better, improved a little late on

Bentaleb 6 - ok but not his best game
Dembele 5 - looked off the pace, still injured maybe?

Lennon 5 - Anonymous Aaron
Chadli 6.5 - little disappointing after Thursday but alright
Eriksen 8.5 - involved in all three goals

Soldado 7 - improved

Sigurdson 7.5 - +1 for the goal
Townsend 6 - not much impact but not bad

Lloris - 5.5. Let both goals through too easily in my opinion, although he did mostly redeem himself by making a fantastic point-blank stop on Lallana afterwards.

Naughton - 4. Two atrocious errors compounded by extremely shaky defending and passing throughout the game, with Southampton making a habit of targeting his flank whenever they could. Still, partly redeemed himself with the cross for the first goal (even if that was down to Clyne more than anyone else). Step up, lad.
Kaboul - 5.5. Slowly getting back to full fitness, and a decent display, all things considered. Still looked somewhat hesitant though, both in the air and when chasing the ball.
Verts - 5.5. Something's off about him. He didn't do much wrong, but he lacked the sort of aura of defensive solidity he possessed earlier in the season.
Rose - 4. Atrocious when going forward, although mostly acceptable defensively. His position in the side remains up for review, imo.

Lennon - 5.5. Was somewhat anonymous, and made the wrong decision when in possession more than once.
Bentaleb - 7. Slowly growing in stature. Kept the ball well, and closed down decently.
Dembele - 5. I echo Mulletperm, what on Earth happened to the Mousa of August 2012 - January 2013?
Eriksen - 7.5. Occasionally made the wrong decision in possession, but worked tirelessly and was in the right position more often than not. Dragged us back into the game with some great finishing.
Chadli - 6.5. He was always a few inches away from having a great game. His runs were great, and his crosses, cut-backs, etcetera were all well-judged. Unfortunately, they were always either too slow to find the on-rushing Eriksen/Soldado, or played just in behind them. A little more accuracy and he could have been the man of the match.

Soldado - 7.5. Great hold up play, wondrous little lay-off to Eriksen at the end of the first half. This season seems destined to be a write-off for him, but hopefully next season he can turn these flashes of brilliance into a real barnstormer of a campaign.

Subs -

Siggy - 7. Scored.
Townsend - 4.5. Looked rusty.

Tim - 6.5. Made the right personnel decisions, and it wasn't his fault that we had to claw our way back from a 2-0 deficit brought about by individual errors.

Special mentions -

Southampton - pressed like madmen, right from minute one to minute ninety-four. We need to play like them. Well done, unlucky tonight.

Not sure about that personally, I think we got on top of them because it's not possible to press that hard for 90 minutes. Falling off in the 2nd half seems to be a theme with Southampton and I believe that's the main reason why.

I've been on the Southampton forums, they seem to be attributing it to inexperienced players panicking as the opposition try to get back into games, not tiredness. And certainly every stray pass in the midfield area fell to a red shirt today, so I'm not sure you could call them 'tired', even in the second half.

Lloris 6
Naughton 5
Kaboul 6
Vertonghen 5
Rose 5
Bentaleb 6
Dembele 5
Lennon 5
Chadli 6
Eriksen 8
Soldado 7

Ssiggurrddsonn 7
Townsend 5

Lloris--------------------(6)----------------Not that much to do really strangely. Couple of times though he was headed the ball to him and instead of picking it up which he could do he tried to play a hurried pass under pressure.
Naughton----------------(4)----------------Terrible play. Terrible positioning and is not even doing the basics right.
Rose---------------------(6)---------------His offensive play is still very much ill just sling it in the box. Not picking out a player. But defensively he put in some very good tackles and knew when to close in and when to hold off.
Kaboul-------------------(6)----------------A bit of a hit and miss game for Youness.
Vertonghen--------------(5)---------------Still looks like he is striding around at times. Some neat passing but i want more strength in the tackle.
Dembele-----------------(4)---------------I like Moussa but he look injured today and off the pace.
Benteleb-----------------(6)---------------Not a great game but he keeps the side ticking over and keeps the passing crisp and rarely loses it.
Lennon------------------(4)---------------A nothing game from him again.
Chadli-------------------(6)----------------Won some flicks and was involved but lack of awareness on a couple of occassions and messed a good chance to play in Soldado.
Eriksen------------------(9)---------------Our best player by a mile. Always looking for the good pass. Pops up in dangerous positions. Keeps moving to throw off his marker. And keeps moving to be availble to receive the ball.
Soldado-----------------(7)---------------Some neat touches and tenacity to tee up the equalizer. Two long range shots that were way off.

Subs:
Sigursson---------------(6)--------------- Closed down well and got involved as soon as he came on. Got a good goal. Think he should start the next game.

Lloris - 6 - couldn't be blamed for the goals, a decent stop, much better distribution today.
Naughton - 2 - hopefully we won't see much more of him in a spurs shirt. He's actually been good for a few games, but today was "classic Naughton"
Rose - 4 - had his moments, but his positioning, passing and bar a few decent tackles in the last 20 so bad
Kaboul - 6.5 - getting better. Great forwards and defensively, a few slack moments but generally very good
Jan - 6.5 - a quietism a game. A few moments of class but not getting involved like he did
bentaleb - 5.5 - largely invisible, but no calamitous ball giving away
Dembele - 5.5 - not quite there, blatantly injured
Lennon - 6 - text book game from Lennon... Probably involved less than normal
Chadli - 7 - good game, got better as match went on
Eriksen - 9 - absolute class. By far the best player
Soldado 8 - great ability, loads of amazing linkup play

- rose and Naughton are simply not good enough
- kaboul and jean, while rusty, are easily our best partnership, looking forward to it developing in the next 7 games
- how anyone thinks bentaleb is anything more that potentially good I have no idea
- we need to build the team around eriksen

Agree with these ratings and comments. Please can we ditch the high line against Liverscum and play like we did in the second half today from the start with the same players that ended the game, except walker and Sandro if 100% fit. Three goals in one half against a decent Saints side is no mean feat.

Aaron Lennon - Simply invisible. Please sell him.

3 assist this season - Including that handball penalty vs Palace on the first day..
1 goals - That lucky deflected goal vs Stoke when the game was over..

Lloris - 6. Not really much to do.

Naughton - 3. Simply not good enough.
Kaboul - 6. Decent shift.
Vertonghen - 5. Still not right.

Totally agree. Used to be a fan of his, but the guy has had more than enough chances over the years, still not effective enough and hardly improved since 2006.

2006 Lennon is much better than today's version. Injuries and poor application have seen him go backwards.

Lloris - 6 - Apart from the goals not much to do.

Naughton - 3 - Should not be anywhere near the first team.

Kaboul - 6 - Did ok today.

Vertonghen - 5 - Disappointing.

Rose - 2 - Makes my blood boil. Utter tripe !

Lennon - 4 - The invisible man. So poor game after game after game.

Bentaleb - 6 - Poor first half, improved in second.

Dembele - 4 - On the beach already.

Eriksen - 8 - Brilliant. A shining light in a sea of mediocrity.

Chadli - 5 - A nice touch here, a nice touch there, but ultimately nothing of note.

Soldado - 8 - Great all round game today.

Subs:
Sig - 7 - Match winner !

Townsend - 3 - No............just no !

Sherwood said Dembele hadn't trained all week but Mousa said he felt ok to play, obviously that was the wrong decision.

My lessons and observations from today

Eriksen - This guy has amazing potential, has to play, we need to accommodate him as much as we accommodated Modric
Soldado - Anyone who thought this guy was a finisher only, needs to watch today's game, would have been on the scoresheet if a couple of our players could pass (and people giving him a 7, watch the game again, if that performance was from Ade, people would be drooling)

If Sherwood doesn't play these two every game they are available till the end of season I don't know what to say

Naughton - surely the guy's last game in a Spurs shirt? awful, awful stuff from a player who has shown nothing.
Rose - poor as usual

Lennon & Townsend - desperately out of form

Think what we saw when Siggy came on is we need a second ball passing player in midfield alongside Eriksen, Bentaleb/Sandro can play the holding role.

TS - poor initial balance, did nothing to address the naughton issue

Game was won on the force of Eriksen/Soldado playing their asses off ...

Hugo - 6
Naughton - 4
Rose - 6
Vertonghen - 7
Kaboul - 7
Dembele - 6
Bentaleb - 7
Lennon - 3
Chadli - 8
Eriksen - 10
Soldado - 7

Subs: Gylfi - 8, Townsend 6

I don't think we see enough tens round here. What's the point of 10 point scale of no one ever gets one? And to be honest, Eriksens single influence on today's much was greater than I have seems from any one else at spurs that I can remember . How often have we been crying out for someone who would take a game by the scryuff (;)) of the neck?

Next year this boy will be HUGE for us. And of Soldado stays and builds up an understanding we will see something very special indeed.
