If we went out and signed a 17 year old striker that scored a goal a game for youths and youth internationals. We'd probably be all excited. But because he's come through our youth he's dismissed?

We've got to give this boy game time. Otherwise he'll be off and like madueke, in a couple of years we'd be trying to sign him back for £30-40m.
We've also got Parrott, so two promising young forwards and hopefully at least one of them reach their potential.

As of getting in players that will perform now, I'd give it a 5. But we've invested for the future, so on that basis I give it an 8.

Kane staying is the biggest positive by far, for our window. Without Kane we would have an enormous rebuild to start... keeping Kane gives us an enormous boost.

I have reservations about that.
He undoubtedly wants away, that will be a distraction for him and at least some of his team mates.
There would be no better time to have £130-60m to spend, the market is ripe for plundering.

Looking at the end of last season, who are we no longer paying a wage to?
Alderweireld, Lamela, Aurier, Sissoko, Rose, Hart, Bale, Vinicius, Foyth, Gazzaniga.

We may not have replaced all of them but I really Really hope that the balance sheet in 10 months' time allows us to do more in view of the millions each month that are no longer going out.

Remember when poch came in? There was upset in the dressing room. We kicked out the old guard and promoted the youngsters. Kane, bentaleb, mason, townsend...

Even though they didn't all make it. We got good money that we reinvested, which got us to the next level.

I think we can do that again. Game time for skipp, tanganga, sessegnon, scarlett, parrott (when he's back)... the youngsters we've bought. We're never going to match city, utd or chelsea in spending. So we have to do it differently.

I'm looking forward to it.

Why swap these guys all around, compared to what we are doing already?

I.e. Hoj Skipp Alli in mid, then Son right Berg left.

Son is a left winger and would be stupid not to use him as such. Especially not because of bergwijn, who is a bench players if you're being kind, at the moment.

Alright window, all things considered.

I'm trying to stay zen and decompress, so I'll skip my thoughts on our habitual underinvestment. Ignoring that, the business done has been decent. In terms of direct upgrades -

  • Toby's been shipped in, Romero brought in. Upgrade here.
  • Hart shipped out, Gollini brought in. Upgrade here.
  • Lamela shipped out, Gil shipped in. Will eventually be an upgrade, if he develops well.
  • Aurier cut loose, Emerson brought in. Upgrade here.
  • Sissoko shipped out, Pape Sarr brought in - even if Sarr can't play for us until next year, still an upgrade.
In terms of the negatives -
  • In Bale, Vinicius and Lamela, we lost about 35 goal contributions from last year. Will struggle to replace that, imo.
  • Couldn't shift *all* the deadwood - Doherty, Winks, Davies, Ndombele.
  • Couldn't get a backup to Kane - if he or Son go down, we are utterly screwed.
More positives than negatives, imo. The season will hinge on a few things going right for us -
  1. Romero likely won't be fully available + settled in until the new year, so we'll need Dier + Sanchez to keep our newfound defensive solidity going.
  2. Son and Kane cannot get injured.
  3. In terms of creativity and ball progression, One of Lo Celso or Ndombele needs to step up - two years in, this is their last chance to show their worth.
If all three happen, we'll have a good year. If not, we'll struggle. But overall, decent 6/10 window, and a start of the rebuild Poch wanted for years and years. Paratici's done alright, and Nuno's a likeable chap - I think this will be an optimistic year, like 2014/2015 was, and I'm looking forward to a lot of things.

  1. having no expectations and seeing a hopefully younger, more intense, more energetic team put in some committed performances. :)
  2. Some local lads in Skipp and Tanganga do their best for the shirt.
  3. A full stadium with people back in it, roaring the lads on.
  4. Some of the kids like Seasegnon and Gil hopefully gaining confidence and developing well.
  5. Nuno being a gent - so far, he's struck me as just the right type of chap. Deadpan with journos, blunt and honest with players, but cares about his relationship with the fans, and is a warmer guy with the club media and the fans than I expected him to be. :)

Shipped out a lot of players and dead wood. Brought in young, talented, high potential internationals. Kept Kane. All for 50m give or take. Compare that to other teams in North London. Patarici has earned a week off once the dust settles on this window.

8/10.

Good outgoings, even for some money for some, no wages to cover from what's been reported.

Very promising signings. Romero could be an absolute monster, Gil looks really exciting, a potential wonder kid in Sarr for next season. A backup goalie that seems good enough. Don't know much about Emerson, but we'll see.

And we kept Harry Kane.

All in a very difficult window, covid financial hit, Kane saga, Nuno and Paratici coming in fairly late, real problems in many areas of our squad.

Looks like clear improvement and very good decisions at this point, but of course the proof is in the aged pudding.

Yeah fair enough. I like Vinicius but he never really did much in the league or got many opportunities. Wouldn't we be better off giving Scarlett a run in the cups or playing Lucas/Stevie central?

Lucas and Stevie are not really renowned for their goals, so playing through the centre not really a good idea

Very surprised at that. Must've been causing a lot of brick behind the scenes and has refused to sign for several clubs according to reports.

Which clubs did he refuse to join? I know of just one French Clun and that is because he would have been joining the rivals of the club he use to play for before PSG, kind of like a former Tottenham player not wanting to join the Goons. The issue with Serge is that he proved he was an unreliable defender so nobody really wanted him

Sky Sports News understands Aurier had interest from Watford, Real Betis, Spartak Moscow and Genoa but felt he should be playing at a higher level.

As far as I can remember there were other clubs also reported as interested. There's also reports that he wants to play in France.
Of course, as with all sports reporting, take it with a pinch of salt.

He wasn't as bad as made out and had cut down on the blunders he was making. In the game against Watford he would've been a better choice than Tanganga as he gives a lot more going forward.

I guess whatever is happening behind the scenes the club want shot of him and he's not being realistic about the level of a club that he's going to play at.
