All looks great. Thought Trippier was really impressive too. But ultimately it wasn't a great showing. Our midfield was awful, and it never improved with all the subs. We need experience to help all these kids, proven quality... Terrified we seem to be in for no one who fits the bill.

Trippier's directness was refreshing, but even though Carrol looked good, it's jts constant tippy tappy with the 3 behind the striker.... Hmmm... Our preseason is strange, and now hard games coming!! No confidence booster :)

Kaka! Would be an inspired signing and only 100k a week!

Quality second half. All we were missing was someone playing in that LWF position who could score/look like scoring and we'd have been complete. Chadli was disappointing tonight, definitely one of those at risk and on the other flank I think we actually looked better before Yedlin came on. Wimmer playing those crossfield balls for Trippier to run onto was great to watch too.

If you asked me to name our best XI after that game, I'd have to say to say Vorm, Trippier, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Rose, Alli, Winks, Eriksen, Dembele, Kane and Onomah (and that's only because Chadli was not at the races). I think Oduwa would've had a good time had he been with the squad.

I thought Chadli was our best player in the first half. Dembele started great, but faded. Kane still a bit rusty.

Defense and CM average.

Never seen Winks play before. He looked the business. Nippy player. All cameos for the young players in an open game - we weren't pressed. Hopefully we will have a strong spine of a core team this season with opportunities for the likes of Winks.

Yep , the intricate play around their box was better in the 2nd half with the youngsters . Bentelab , Dembele, Chadli and Eriksen have got to play it quicker around the opponents box with some one touch passing .

I also thought Trippier looked so much more composed than Walker.

Was at game .. A few observations.

Real game was first half, pretty much our first choice 11, Kaka, Deuce & Villa for them.

- Kane a little rusty, but still the real deal.

- Suicidal high line is back, I have pics of our last player with 5 yards of half line when they had possession.

- Strict orders to pass out the back, not a single long kick from keeper.

- lots of possession, sometimes too slow, too easy to choke in middle, threat from wide.

Alli looked like he will be a star.
Wimmer has to improve on heading.
Yedlin looked out of his depth.
Walker was lol.
Carrol looked like he can push Eriksen for some game time in the #10 position.
Trippier crossed a lot.
Dier didn't play well as a DM
Chadli killed the momentum every time he touched the ball
Fazio was boss.

The MLS mashup team played better than Spurs

Player observations

- Trippier looks like he will replace Walker, we badly need an additional forward, midfielder to attack those crosses.

- Jan was much more vocal organizing defense, directing.

- Yedlin is poor, sorry, I've tried to make excuses, but his positioning is awful. Trippier was constantly telling him where to go ..

More later ...

Watching the game now. After 70 min this is my view. First, looking at the squad for the game, we have 14 defenders and 11 mid/for. We are painfully short of up front. First 20 minutes saw some shocking play from Verthongen, not seen since Gilberto and Doherty. In attack it's just what Kane can do. Brilliant finish. But we really don't look threatening at all! No one is in the danger areas, and no runs into the box. It's the usual play back and forth from left to right and back again, before it clogs up in the middle. As for individuals, not much to say. Trippier looks better than Walker, Rose still ahead of Davies. Dele looks like a proper prospect! Carroll, his future is not at Spurs. All in all, we need some more quality in the forward areas. Dier looks like he can do a job as a defensive midfielder, but I would like a new CM.

Pt2

- poor game from Bentaleb, we all know he can do better.

- Davies actually had a decent game, more involved than Rose.

- Dier was obviously just doing a job, play safe or get to Bentaleb or Eriksen.

- Chadli/Eriksen wasn't noticeably better than Carroll/Alli

- Lamela did tricks with young players in warm up, but never suited up.

All in all, nothing new, need a DM, Striker and some pace in midfield.

Did actually create enough chances to win, but the rust showed.

Sounds like the same issues as last season tbh

High line not suited
No pace
Midfield isn't really good enough
Defensive errors costing goals

I haven't seen the game but it sounds to me like a standard friendly just before the start of the season. The players are going to be playing at half pace and not fully committed because no one wants to pick up an injury.

We were only there for the $$$$$.

Nor I, so only going on what people are saying on here.

I'm still in the mind set the squad is lacking pace and we have a missive CM hole to fill

We need cover up front but other than that, I am relaxed. I am excited that we have managed to keep this group of young players together, they are a year more experienced and the next lot coming through look great too.

We're not going to challenge for the title, we all know that but we are well placed for the 4-6 fight again.

We played the best players from MLS at altitude, also these guys are midway through their season whereas we have had 2 weeks of pre-season only. Our lads have travelled alot further and been involved in a load of media stuff for 2 days. And we still had morechances by the sound of it. Nothing to worry about.

I'm less optimistic.

I see a 5-7 fight, and whilst you are correct about the youth players we are desperate for an experienced head in the middle

I'd welcome an old head to come in and guide the youngsters through but if the right player is not available, I'm relaxed about the youngsters growing together.

I think that we are at a stage where people see the weaknesses of Bentaleb/Mason and have lost sight of the positives.

I think that Liverpool will be a car crash this season. So I see fifth as ours to throw away.

I see no reason that we can't challenge the top 4. Of course big name quality signings help, but people get too wrapped up in the transfer window and lose sight of the fact that when the season starts its down to what happens on the pitch and that the team ethos and dynamics play a massive part and it's not all about big name signings. We will be flirting with the big boys, how far we get depends on how well the likes of Kane and Bentaleb et al have matured having had a seasons more PL experience....
