Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Surely long term having renewables as your first source of energy and non renewables as back up is far better than reliance on non renewables of which its clear there is not a finite supply of AND also given how reliant one is on global stability, which is worse than relying on the weather these days

Say it with me "BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BOATS ARGHHHH"

It's being done in a dumb way though. They are hugely cutting overseas students, who shouldn't even be in immigration figures, and have previously been subsidising all homegrown education costs.

Gas is already the backup. What's the benefit in investing in batteries?
Exactly, gas and oil should stay in the tanks until it is needed ->backup

You are thinking like a prepper - batteries are not for long-term storage. The batteries are used to replace burning dead dinosaurs every evening when demand ramps up. I'm not sure you are getting it, but I think that's enough of this topic in the politics thread.

Amazing that the government imposes multiple taxes / extra costs on businesses then has the cheek to ask supermarkets for price fixed on some goods.

There is an interesting double click in this category. It wasn't just the overseas students in our education system that created the swell. It was the supplementary spouse and kids, especially coming in from Africa. I remember seeing the Nigeria stats as an example. That loophole has been closed and suddenly these students (mostly mature students) don't seem so keen to study here. Can't think why that is.

What we do need to do is make sure we have an open door to students and other skilled people though. I'm all for anyone who could add to society long term, especially moral standards even if it isn't just through skill.
