Israel is difficult. There is an argument as I've said that Israel has had to live with aggression from Gaza for years, that rockets are constantly fired from Gaza at Israeli cities and they don't do much as Israel has constructed the most ridiculous air defence system in the world. All this time Israel has been asked by the west and allies to exercise self-restraint. "You're safe, we supply you with equipment, you don't have to do anything." Then 7/7 happens and the response is awful. But the attack was awful to the point of being intolerable. On the flip side Israel have tolerated illegal settlers and the Palestinians have been living without recognition of a free state and in poor conditions for decades.
Peace is not going to be achived by not engaging with and supporting Israel. Actually the route to peace is pretty much exactly the strategy adopted by Lammy - we will continue to support you only if you cease the violence and if not we will recognise a Palestinian state and start supporting them more and more.
The other aspect to this that I've said on here is that the yanks are balls deep in israel and while that remains the case we (and europe) have to walk a tightrope. Bit like with Ukraine and actually particularly because of Russia/China. You've seen renewed Russian aggression in Europe backed by China who have assembled and paraded a HUGE military capability in the last few years. America is the only country that can offer competing defence guarantees and protection against that.
I think the praise i have in terms of Lammy's work is he has not done a bad job at all of navigating these various spinning plates, pushing a Palestinian cause while not excluding Israel, building bridges with Europe while keeping the yanks on side, closing a trade deal with India and getting a preferential tariff deal with Trump.
