Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

funny how we are so different from the rest of the EU, can’t think what has changed…

Maybe those other countries didn’t have COVID?

Don't be so ridiculous.

We r aN eyeland. It's harda to transport gas over c than it is ova tha land.
Basic sighence innit. Get an edumacation.

Frequently reported that Rees-Mogg is a disaster capitalist, and Shapps has made money in that area too.

Doesn’t take a genius to work out what they’re currently spending their time on and (it certainly isn’t governing).

Disaster capitalist as in he’s a bit brick at making money. As a hedge fund manger his emerging markets fund underperformed the sector.

As a politician he backed a policy which has cost the UK billions of pounds. A disaster capitalist? Yes absolutely.

Given that his estimated net worth is £100 million+, he seems to be doing alright.

it might be something to do with the massive profits the uk companies are making

A lot is to do with variance in government policies. It also helps if you have a government, which seems to be a missing piece in the case of the UK.

Right wing to left wing spectrum of economics. Our government simply prioritises the interests of big business

What is even more ridiculous is that we are the 2nd biggest gas producer in Europe (after Norway). It's just all being stolen by the hedge funds who currently own our energy industry.
I'm looking for a technical analysis (with numbers, interventions, options taken) not a political one.

A very nice local pub has today announced its closing with immediate effect. The owner has posted a message to say that their utilities have increased by £56,000 over the past year and it’s unsustainable to continue. Brings it home.

It's ridiculous, massive crisis and no govt to speak off. I dont get why electricity is so high anyway, more than half of it comes from wind and nuclear which has pretty fixed costs and is also generated in the UK.

Profiteering.

There is a genuine cost of living crisis, inflation, war in Ukraine but there is also a deliberate strategy by big business to make massive profits behind the smokescreen. The costs rises are not necessary. One analysis suggested 78% of the rise was due to profiteering by FFTSE big boys, (55+% when you didn't include fossil fuel companies).

That's why there needs to be some explainers.

Europe have stated the electricity price should be decoupled from the gas price.

Yes, I get some electricity is produced from gas but as you say a large amount is from other means.

It's disgraceful

yesterday during one of the hustings or interview sessions in Herts yesterday (which is basically just a chat with a right winger like Julia Hartley Brewer - Nick Robinson is a tory and Truss is too scared to meet him), there was absolute no mention of cost of living crisis.

Biggest chear came when Rishi said he would fight woke ideology.

Again, as long as idiots read the Mail etc, they will feed off of that brick and ignore the issues in front of them whilst distracted over non-events.

The major major problem is that the future UK Prime Minister has to appeal to a very select group who tend to mimic some pretty bigoted beliefs. Older, richer, southern etc they tend to be pro Brexit, old and grumpy.

Brexit has essentially broken our democracy. Our last 3 PMs will have been chosen by an unrepresentative elite. Not in the interests of the nation but for these select few.

hopefully will be awake up call when we kick them out soon (not soon enough)

Last 4/5 if you include Gordon Brown. But we've never elected PMs in this country, so that's just how it works.

Truss is making a lot of definitive statements that are likely to be completely at odds with reality.

This is all essentially for nothing, as she's just gonna follow the ERG culture war doctrine anyway, all changing leader has done is make the government even less effective for 2 months.
