Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

There is an issue with the numbers in that ethnicity has not always been recorded. So whilst the figures might give an indication, they can’t be relied on as a true picture.
Newsnight* dedicated an episode to the topic of *struggle cuddle*-gangs (as that’s what they are, not ā€œgroomingā€ gangs) the week before last (on the Thursday nigjht I think). The numbers for Pakistani men %-wise were obviously a lot less then that for white offenders but they did say the number was high when compared to the overall Pakistani population here. But again without ethnicity always being recorded the stat is not very useful and I wonder if it is authorities where there is a high proportion of non-white residents who are doing the recording.
* I would highly recommend searching out the episode on iPlayer, it’s about half an hour long. There were 4 or 5 survivors speaking, some for the first time publicly, and it was heartbreaking but also made me very angry,to hear their stories.
It seems the biggest issue by far is that these girls were treated as worthless by all the authorities who should have been looking out for them. They were seen as prostitutes, effectively and even when they tried to report what was happening they were ignored - or even worse, threatened with prosecution.
One victim was asked by her rapists to bring other girls along with her and she was then charged - and convicted - of procuring underage girls for sex and she is still now fighting to be taken off the sex offenders register.

I worry that the report coming out now will lead to more violence by those just looking to make trouble and it will be politicised and all the while the victims that everyone proclaims to care about will be seen as afterthoughts.

I have seen it. And I don't disagree with anything you have said. We can work with the data that we have I guess.

Mor importantly, you Pointed out the critical point. These girls were failed by the system. these young victims of r*pe were mostly in care. Abandoned by families. Social and police saw them as nothing. And these evil people took advantage of them.

The lack of slcial care in this country is absolutely at the business end of all this

Absolutely at the core of the issue in this countrisis kids being bought up into environments which increases their vulnerability, often around drugs or drinking.

We would be in a much better state on this topic if we addressed the social issues on this country as well as tackling it at the other end too

No. The lack of punishment is the problem. If you do good be rewarded. If you do bad get punished.

This modern mindset that criminals are victims is bollx.

Trevor Phillips, the former head of the Equality and Human Rights Commission and journalist, told Times Radio: 'I think that ministers owe an apology to all of the people who they essentially said were talking rubbish, to all the people who to whom they said you haven't actually bothered to read the Jay Report and you don't know actually what's going on and to all of the people of whom it was suggested their interest and concern about this was motivated in some way by racial distaste or prejudice.'

The social workers who claimed 10 year olds were sex workers need to go to prison.

All the liberals who have failed to confront what was happening in their own country and accused anyone who raised the subject of being racist and the are quite a few on this website who can feign mock outrage if you like, your attitudes and behaviour are what led authorities to cover this up and not confront it. Because they also fear being called racist. Your mindsets resulted in girls as young as 10 being passed around groups of men.

Your attitudes helped shaped the politics of this topic and you should all be deeply ashamed of yourselves. You accuse right wing people and I don't actually feel I'm right wing but working class left wing actually but you have accused people of stoking racism through their language when it has helped protect these gangs and institutionalised rapes of vulnerable young girls in a supposedly developed country.

I applaud the government for doing the right thing, something the tories never got round to. He is slow getting going but he gets there in the end, Starmer, though I'm not always sure of his motives.

Once we get to grips with the true scale of the issue we can make the country a safer place for everyone. This includes moderate religious types who deserve to live freely if they adhere to that very basic principle of treating everyone freely and equally.

*After quite a few exchanges by email with a few of the posters I'm chummy with. I have decided to leave this website today. Not a big drama or anything like that. But I have become increasingly disgusted at the extremist nature of some of the posters on this board. I know a few others are feeling similar.

Hope spurs have a hood season next year and I'm sure the 3 I talk to I will see at the 7 or 8 games I go to next season. Mines a double vodka and coke with a twist of lemon remember.

The CPS are shocking.

This is an absolute shocker and both the police and CPS should be ashamed this case ever came to court.
The case concerns Simon Correria, 48, director of a luxury watch brand, who, with his wife, was at the London’s Park Plaza Hotel, Riverbank, for an awards evening.
The Mail on Sunday reports a male waiter carrying drinks was about to back into him so Mr Correria put his hand on his back to warn him.
That waiter, a Muslim man, then claimed he had been abused and a finger penetrated him.
Mr Correria , from Liverpool, protested his innocence and footage from mutiple CCTV cameras in the hotel supported him.
Despite that, the police put a case together and the CPS said he should be charged with sexual assault.
Mr Correria’s life was put on hold for a year with him fearing his business career and the way he was perceived by friends, family and fellow workers, had been changed forever.
The waiter, a Muslim, said his religion meant he was ā€œ very sensitive to this kind of thingā€. He has received anonymity because he was an alleged sex victim.
Finally, a year later and it having cost him £10,000 in legal fees, the judge at London Crown Court threw out the case out in one hour 56 minutes.
The judge said the footage wholly contradicted the charges.
Mr Carreras, a father of two, wept when cleared and some of the jury shook his hand and they too cried.
There has never been an apology or explanation from either the police or CPS.
I think the solicitor who okayed this charge should be named and be forced to explain why he or she thought it right that this case be brought.
Was it because the waiter was a Muslim? This whole case stinks.
Not a surprise the Met did that - it's the natural over correction from letting sexual misconduct & racism run rife within it's culture.

The waiter - clearly an arsehole. Should have retracted his accusation after seeing the CCTV.
The Met - well, what can you even say.
The CPS are the most disappointing here - they are supposed to be the balance between charges and going to court.

I also wonder why Mr Carreras was crying. Must have been good friends with Mr Correria I guess?

Have you spent much time in prison or talking to prisoners?

It is possible to be both a criminal and a victim at the same time.
Some criminals are utter scum.
Some have decided to better their life or get what they want they'll ignore the laws society has created.
Some end up in situations where it's very hard to not become involved in crime.

If you don't understand why that last category is true - be very thankful that you don't.

Literacy (or lack of it) plays a big part here methinks

Some are caught in circular lifestyle following being abused which spirals into drugs and abuse themselves, because.l, as stated the social care and attitude to social care and mental health is on the floor. Victims rarely get support and go into criminality (not specifically as abusers).

This is all absolutely correct - and is also only a tiny part of the story.

The inequity (often called the post code lottery) in the UK plays a big part, as does the stiff upper lip attitude.

The circular lifestyle is a big issue and goes way wider than those experiencing abuse. "At least" (I can't think of a better term - and I feel sick having used this one) the abused have some chance of being noticed and helped, albeit very small

For anyone that wants to gain a decent understanding of prison and some of pre, during and post incarceration factors - watch the following critically and think laterally about them:

Time (BBC)
Parole (BBC)
Celebs Behind Bars (Ch 4 or ITV)

Happy to then discuss if anyone wants to.
This is a subject I know quite a lot about (I can't share why in detail)

Would be very sorry to see you go and hope that you reconsider.
