'Perfect albums'

Lots of good shouts on here. However, I’m surprised The Stone Roses hasn’t been mentioned. It completely passed me by until recently when a mate brought me to watch a (brilliant) tribute act.

I discovered the album in July and, wow, it blew me away. Absolute classic.
Im not sure its perfect - the start and end are brilliant, but the middle 3rd is ropey. It doesnt have Elephant Stone or Fools Gold on it either, even though they are from that period.

The received wisdom is usually that Complete Stone Roses is the better album (although that misses This Is One and has an inferior version of Resurrection)

Electric Warrior, The Slider and Tanx by T-Rex are all pretty much perfect.

Talking of 3 consecutive studio albums,
Bowie's ZIggy Stardust, Alladin Sane and Diamond Dogs take some beating. As does Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main Street from the Stones.

Low & Heroes as a double...Lodger hss good things but I don't play it nearly as much as those two...I do love "Red Money", which Iggy of course released as "Sister Midnight"...BTW, what about The Idiot and Lust For Life?

Also The Stooges debut, Funhouse and Raw Power as a trio...music is fudging wonderful!

p.s. Motörhead Overkill - excellent...

Urban Hymns is great...A Northern Soul might be even better?
That album was before I got knots them
The lightbulb song for me was Bitter Sweet Symphony and I went to the record shop every week to see if the album was out
The guy who ran Andys records in town later became a promoter and he remembered me from that when we did some gigs with him

This is such an emotive question and IMO for most people these albums will be I was here where I heard this… or i was doing such and such with this person 😉

Ones for me that stand out too are

Coldplay - Parachutes. Outstanding debut with a perfect structure for me… the songs flow so well

In recent times Angel In Real Time by gang of youths is one I can listen to and listen to. Outstanding live band too with a song revenge to Benoit Assou Ekotto

Graceland by Paul Simon. Was one of the ones my dad got on CD when CD came out. Revolutionary album for many reasons but also because I played it some much on my dads CD player it broke. Tomorrow’s world days these discs were impossible to damage and I did it. Luckily we also had it on Vinyl which now sits in my collection

There are no soundtracks in here which may be cheating but there have been some truly standing ones. I can sit and listen to Chariots of Fire soundtrack whisky working and just relax and focus. I also grew up loving queen who have so many amazing albums and highlander would be right up there (although not perfect). Saturday night fever and grease are two amazing soundtracks that make the film but also stand alone. And modern music wise the Barbie soundtrack is outstanding and Mark Ronson at his best IMO

I absolutely love Saturday Night Fever. My wife of 44 years was a Disco diva and that album brings back memories of a fabulous part of my life.

That’s what I mean
The reason we all have certain attachments is IMO more than the music. It’s the memories associated with it
A partner
A party
A break up
An event

I can quite certain songs form certain events with certain people because that’s partly how I remember that moment

This year we went on our lads weekend to albufeira .. avg age is 50
We had 3 songs on repeat

Red Light Spells Danger - Billy Ocean
I don’t love you anymore - Teddy Pendergrass
pink pony club - chapell roan

The latter song is about drag queens and it’s 6 middle aged blokes. We get a tuk tuk into town and they legion choose the music for the speakers and lo and behold we’re playing the tunes. It’s fair to say you get a reaction especially to the last song. Seeing a driver turn and look over at us singing the words, tinkled, and out of tune of course is quite a sight, as I’m sure we were

I’ve got the band booked for my 50th next year already rehearsing it

I have never been able to sing a single note in tune. People pay me not to even attempt it.

I was in a band and learned quickly that I couldn’t sing
However
Compared to my mates
I’m Freddie Mercury
Singing is hard, really hard.
I always joke that people from Wales and Scotland can just sing naturally because there are so many great singers from there

I'm the same, doesn't stop me.
Few things better for my mental health than closing the door, cranking up the volume and singing along with Freddie, bowie, or some of my more random choices on Spotify.
Sends my spirits soaring, whether it's bangers like don't stop me now, somebody to love, or the soul searchers of the belway brothers, quicksand. I just lose myself in the joy.

If I had one dream it would be to control an audience like Freddie, he was unique and an absolute star.
As we make dinner on a Saturday night the wife and I will have youtube playing "random" music, radio gaga from live aid came on, the whole crowd were doing the hand clap, no way they were all queen fans, but Freddie had them eating out of his hand.

Oh yeah, if nobody is around i give it l large
'She was a girl from Birmingham....'. 👨‍🎤

It's alright for a country and Western album and easy listening. Not dissing anyone's taste in music, but musically, its not something remarkable that will be remembered for a long time. It's pretty generic.

On another note, Taylor Swift sells ridiculous amounts of records, but from a purely musical perspective, it's crap! Just shows what millions in marketing can do!

Ryan Adams version of 1989 is very good though
