how anyone can judge a player by only a handful of performances was beyond me. Palhinio came to us with a reputation as a box-to-box player and it takes at least a season, if not more, for a player to settle in a new league, especially when they've only played in one league for their whole career.

Paulinho was excellent in the second half, though he should have scored from Townsend's cross. He's regularly buzzing around the right areas, will get involved with the ball and will score many goals for us.
He was unlucky to be denied a goal on a different occasion by a good Guzan save. Really happy with our acquisition of him.

I don't think he had a great game today, how did he miss that chance and why try to head it? But I am a fan of his and he'll score goals. Simply has to play ahead of Dembele for me as Paulinho makes so many great runs into the box.

Perhaps not great, but he's showing great consistency in that in his not great games he's still solid and dependable. Just what you want from a player like him. So many games are so tight that central midfielders will struggle to express themselves at times, but having players that you can at least depend on in those situations is so important. Add to that his ability to get on the ball in and around the box thanks to what must be an amazing stamina and some really smart running I think, and the ability to do something with the ball in those situations and that's a pretty special combination.
I agree, he has to play. For me he's the one out of our 4 central options that is closest to being a guaranteed starter at this point.

Was wondering why he didn't just run into it. Could have chested it in the net. Slowed down and tried to stoop with his head.

and the difference between Sandro and Dembele is the unreal defensive work Sandro gives us.
it's why Dembele shouldnt start ahead of either when fielding our strongest team, but what a player Dembele is to rely on. I thought he was used very well agaisnt Villa, much needed composure and strength when he come on.

Same here. He doesn't seem to do much. And slows the game down, too often he has no end product.
I used to like the way that he drove forward, now I've realised that there's nothing at the end of that run, I'm less excited. He's not a bad footballer but he's back up to Paulinho and no better.

I think Paulinho and Dembele are massively different players. I cant believe the hate Dembele gets of late, I think he is outstanding. He is absolutely solid and he and Sandro give us an incredible platform from which to build. I don't think he is particularly quick at springing our attacks but neither is Paulinho in that respect. Paulinho's strength comes in the form of his ability to time his runs into the box and he is good in the air. He will always score far more than Dembele.
It depends what we want from our defensive midfield duo. Goals or a solid base. Either way, Dembele, Capoue and Paulinho are all fantastic players. And Sandro is my absolute favourite.

Sandro and Dembele were excellant together last season. I also don't get the Dembele hate of late. I would play sandro and paulinho as my 1st choice 2 but I can see that Dembele is a very able replacement or alternative.
