Spurs sign up experienced Spanish scout
Tottenham have snapped up Malaga's former technical scout Adrian Esparraga to become the club's senior scout for southern Europe.
Spurs' new scouting guru Paul Mitchell is understood to have been the driving force behind the move for Esparraga, who left the Spanish club earlier this season.
The 24-year-old worked under Malaga sporting director Mario Husillos for almost three years during the time that current Emirates Marketing Project manager Manuel Pellegrini was coach at the club but left La Rosaleda last July persue other opportunities.
He will now form part of the new-look Spurs scouting network being put together by ex-Southampton head of recruitment Mitchell.

Mauricio Pochettino has vetoed Tottenham Hotspurs’ proposal to appoint a new sporting director with the manager eager to retain a significant influence over transfers. The club are understood to have assembled a shortlist of potential candidates to replace the former head of recruitment, Paul Mitchell, but have abandoned the process after talks between Pochettino and Daniel Levy, the chairman. Many of Mitchell’s functions have been taken by the chief scout Steve Hitchen, who reports to the club’s football committee of Pochettino, Levy and the academy manager John McDermott. Tottenham’s willingness to bow to Pochettino’s wishes will increase their chances of keeping hold of the in-demand Argentinian amid interest from Real Madrid.

And why should we appoint a new head of recruitment? Our transfers since Mitchell left have been quite successful. There will always be the odd flop, but that is unavoidable.

I thought that his buys were the ones Poch considered to have bad attitudes.
The guy could spot a player with potential, but he watches a hell of a lot of football so should be able to. We all watch a fair amount of football and can spot promising players, he was basically playing football index and buying players he thought would be good in a few years time, he got that mainly right as most went on to play top flight football around Europe.
But and it is a massive but, he did not build a team, just signing a lot of players with potential is not enough as Poch has shown. You are lucky if you can get more then 2 young or inexperienced players into a team at one time. For a successful team you need players that are capable and ready to play in a league straight away, you need to recruit on more then just skill level but on how a player will fit into a team and whether they have the right attitude and most key of all whether they fit into the style of play your head coach plays.
