OT: What next for Harry?

Unfortunately theoretical mathematics does not win football games. If a manager is good like Martinez he can take inferior players to win at Manchester United or go on a good run to safety.
If HR is any good he can save them if he does not save them he has not done a good enough job. Some posters used to start every season saying we would be lucky to get 8th and give long winded reasons as to why.
There is still a lot of that about when discussing HR.

Over the course of a season maths averages do tend to even out. The bottom line here is that with 5pts from 14 games, QPR simply will run out of games before they reach safety in my opinion. Even QPR perform top 10 level results it probably still won't be enough to see them avoid the drop.

If Redknapp has them getting 1.2pts on average per game until the end of the season he'd have done a good job. That will see them earn close to 29pts from remaining fixtures and 34pts overall. Which I don't think will be good enough for them to avoid the drop.

You use Martinez as an example. Wigan got 43pts last year (1.1pts per game on average). If Redknapp EQUALS Martinez achievement with QPR it won't save them. So I am not sure why you are using Martinez, who has a full season for his results to average out, as a yardstick here. What Redknapp needs to achieve with QPR is a task tougher than taking us to 4th in my view.

In Harry's first season with Spurs he averaged 1.6pts per game, which is probably why he thinks 1.4pts with QPR is doable.

Big difference in the quality of squads. When Redknapp took Spurs over I don't think he did anything special. We were a top six team that for some reason was bottom of the league! QPR aren't even a top 10 team in my opinion.

Plus he's got to lift them virtually instantly to a level where they're suddenly winning 50% of the available points to reach the traditional 'safety threshold'. That may not actually be necessary, if Villa et al. start to fail even more spectacularly, but yeah, I think QPR are already doomed, personally.

They still have home games against Villa, Norwich, Sunderland and Wigan and away games at Villa, Reading, Southampton, Wigan and West Ham. It's a big ask, but that's 27 points right there, plus they're taking points from direct competition. They're also yet to play Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Fulham, another 4 games where they can pick up wins. I'd give them to Christmas before writing them off completely.

The gap of 8 points to safety looks daunting. However, they are only 11 points from 10th. That means there are more teams that could have a bad run and drop.

Of these teams, I certainly can't see Liverpool, Fulham or Saudi Sportswashing Machine doing so. One or two of Stoke, Wigan, Sunderland, Norwich and Villa might. QPR need to go on a good run to get points but they can hope for a least one team to make the task easier.

Thanks for replying because when I googled for info I found this fantastic site. http://www.worldfootball.net/spielplan/eng-premier-league-2012-2013-spieltag/14/

All the scores and tables for EPL plus.

In reply to your post-I do not know of any game where you can get 1.4 points.

The number of points needed to survive in the last 5 years are 31-40. So QPR have to win about 9 games out of their next 25 to put themselves in with a chance. That whole current bottom ten does not look very scary to me.

In a nutshell if HR is any good he will keep them up. Some Spurs fans think he is a genius-many wanted him for England. Let's see what he does with a decent squad and an owner willing to spend big in January.

I disagree. The situation is so dire that i think even the special one himself would struggle to keep them up. If they get relegated it does not mean Harry is not any good. It's not that black or white, it never is.

Do you understand what an average is?

And from your posts it's obvious what you are trying to do and that you don't rate Redknapp. So basically if Harry succeeds, it was because it wasn't a challenge to keep them up. If they go down, it's because he is a poor Manager. You're setting up a point of view where you simply can't be wrong. You should work in the spin business.

Onlyme uses the same tactics as Redknapp when it comes to spin. Put all the blame for their position on the players, if they go down its their fault, if they stay up it was his achievement!

I will be absolutely gobsmacked if Bent signs for QPR.

Harry Redknapp has not yet made a bid for Joe Cole but admits he would love to have his former charge at Queens Park Rangers to help fire their bid for Barclays Premier League survival.

As revealed by Sportsmail yesterday, Cole is wanted by Redknapp to save QPR from the drop. The relegation-threatened club will explore the option of taking the former England international on loan until the end of the season when the transfer window re-opens.

The midfielder is an outcast at Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers and needs a fresh challenge elsewhere. Redknapp has not yet made a formal offer but admits Cole is a player he greatly admires.

‘I signed Joe Cole as an 11-year-old. I know him better than anyone,' said Redknapp. 'He’s been a top player and I still think there’s a top player in him. I like him very much as a player but there’s been no inquiry from Liverpool at the moment.'

Asked about other potential January signings, Redknapp said: ‘Darren Bent’s a good player. They paid twenty-odd million for him. I’m not even looking at January. It’s now. It’s these games that will decide where we’re going. If we don’t pick up some points and win then what’s the point of trying to bring in players and get yourself a big wage bill for next year?

Redknapp also had words of praise for David Beckham.

Beckham is set for talks with Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain about a lucrative move to France once he brings the curtain down on his six-season career at LA Galaxy this weekend.

The 37-year-old will leave the US after the MLS Cup Final against Houston in Los Angeles and as well as the French interest, he also has to consider big-money offers from the Barclays Premier League, Russia, China and the Middle East as he looks to extend his career.

‘You couldn’t say anything bad about Beckham,' Redknapp said. 'A top bloke and a fantastic player. I don’t know what David will do, but he’ll be a fantastic asset for anybody just because of his presence and professionalism. But it's not something we're pursuing.

'I’ve never discussed players with anyone – chairman, Phil – we just need to win some football matches. January is way off.’

‘I think we’ve got a strong midfield. We’ve got a group of players who can play in there. We haven’t got such a well-balanced squad. In one or two areas we’ve got very few options. Up front we’ve left ourselves very short in that area – you need three of four fit strikers, so that’s an area we’re short, with Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson injured.

Redknapp was also asked about the future of his nephew, Frank Lampard, at Chelsea.

Lampard has struggled to make the first-team at Chelsea this season and looks set to leave the club he has served for more than a decade next summer.

The former Tottenham boss would not be drawn on Lampard's future, however, and offered a sarcastic response.

Redknapp said: ‘Frank’s really keen to leave Chelsea. He’s not bothered about playing Champions League or anything.’
