Europa league only to inevitably end up against the Goons or Chelsea??? Not sure me ol' ticker could take it!
Liverpool and United both tried for the Europa when they were in it, didn't do them much harm, both finalists with United winning it and Liverpool reaching the CL Final only 2 years after it.
Embarrasing that people value top 4 so highly over actually winning things, epecially when said trophy gets you a place in the CL anyway.
I dont think the Europa league is beneath us, I think its a bricky competition designed to keep developing teams out of the CL.
Its a quagmire, a bloody swamp you get bogged down in, and it sucks the life out of your domestic form.
And, when all is said and done, its a secondary competition. Like the Carling cup is to the FA Cup, nobody actually gives a brick about it and who wins it.
I would gladly ditch it completely to qualify for the CL next season.
So what are we going to win that’s deemed acceptable?
Chances are slim we would win the Europa. Dropping into the knockouts is an advantage but its still far from a given.
If we are in it, Id like to win it - hardly saying otherwise - but given the choice Id duck the competition entirely as I think its poison.
In the knock out stages of the Europa it’s not much different than the CL game wise.
We should be going for it if we are in it
This. Absolutely.
Imo we need to shake this largely Poch-inspired idea that the Europa is beneath us. It may well be our most realistic route into the Champions League next year.
We have a group of players who have been tipped to do great things but who are struggling to get over the line. Until they do (and it’s looking increasingly likely that this group in its current form won’t) then EVERY cup should be a priority. Fudge absolutely this idea that certain cups are beneath us - they are the only cups we have a realistic chance of winning.

Stopped reading after
Michel Vorm said Tottenham needed to learn from the harsh lesson of Wednesday night
When will we start learning?
Winning a trophy is more about what it can do for the team rather than an individual player. No one says it magically makes players better, but can enhance the mentality of the group. A fairer comparison would be to see how France as a team go on now they’ve won a tournament....Funny this thing about winning a trophy and the magical powers it can bestow upon the winner. If I recall correctly, our captain and keeper Hugo lloris recently won a trophy and it doesn't seem to have transformed him into anything greater that he was before.
I did read on the BBC feed yesterday that Lozano has had 30 different players booked in a season... that’s some odd fact
Lots of people say it magically makes a group better. It really helped us when we won the carling Cup in 2008... Or did it?Winning a trophy is more about what it can do for the team rather than an individual player. No one says it magically makes players better, but can enhance the meteorology of the group. And Heung-Min Son just won the Asian Cup but hasn’t exactly been pulling up trees since his return either.Funny this thing about winning a trophy and the magical powers it can bestow upon the winner.
