wow, amazed at the liverpool line up, I really thought they would go full strength

of course it means the narrative will now be about what a wonderful academy the dippers have and not only will they win the PL this year they will also have a Fergie-esque period of dominance for the next two decades

Love seeing our young boys given a run out, its the one thing i miss about not being in the EL, the CL is all a bit serious.

That's a weaker team than I expected us to play. Liverpool's team is also weaker than I expected, but it's still stronger than ours, and they have some firepower on the bench if they need it. It would be a great achievement if we knock them out.

Pretty even teams, which is good. For such a weakened team, the back 4 and 2 CMs looks pretty solid. Not that confident that we'll score many with Onomah and Carroll in the team....maybe this is the night when GKN makes a name for himself?

I'm looking forward to seeing what the kids can do. It will be interesting to see how deep Carroll plays, it could easily be a 4-3-3.

Their bench is strong then ours, I agree, but in terms of starting 11s, if you look at how many PL standard and proven outfielders are on each side then we have 4 - Trippier, Davies, WImmer and Dier (Janssen and GKN haven't really adapted yet). They have Lucas, Sturridge, Moreno, Wijnaldum so 4 as well. The rest of their team are either youngsters or new to the country

Klopp got cold feet and got scared our kids would beat his Galacticos. :p

I suspected the managers agreed to tone their teams down once the meejah went firmish on the particular youngsters.

It makes sense for them to give their squad players a run out, they have no opportunities to bring them in with just league games.

That is actually the exact team I expected us to play

Who can forget the 2004 Round 4 match against Liverpool. We were leading 1-0 with only 3 mins remaining in in extra time. Kanoute stupidly gave away the penalty and he also missed a penalty in the shootout. Hope we will do much better this time.

That 82 final was a killer for me. That team was awesome and was in the running for the quadruple, but the fixture pile-up the cup runs created meant we literally ran out of steam and just got over the line to finish with at least the FA Cup for consolation

Agree. I like the look of that line-up and have a good feeling about this (kiss of death no doubt). Really pleased to see Dier as captain as well. He is the obvious choice from that starting line-up, I know, but he does seem like potential captain material for the future so good experience for him.

One other thing which won't be mentioned by commentators is that its likely that only 1 of our starting 11 tonight will start at the weekend (Dier)

Me too. We went ahead too damn early. But the FA Cup was decent consolation.

It's nice to see Harrison get selected for the first team squad for the first time too. I thought that he was unlucky to be out for the Gillingham game.

Same here. One of the Pool fans at work was asking what team we would have out (as if I had a direct line to Pochettino). Got the back 5 spot on, I had to explain to him who CCV and Wimmer were!!!
Told him NKD would start, the only one I got wrong was I thought it might be Winks and Carroll together with Onomah-Alli-GKN behind Janssen,

But having thought about it Wink/Carroll might well have been too light, so it makes sense having Dier next to Winks

Is there any reason to think he's any good and/or might make it? I haven't been impressed in the few times I've seen him

The same situation for Liverpool, given their starting 11 tonight (Wijnaldum).
