My thoughts too. Winning games that would put us top of the league seems too much for us so talk of winning seem a bit premature to me.

I can understand some fans getting carried away ( over the 50 odd years i have been watching Spurs i have done the same at times) but i have learnt how to curb that ( so many let downs over those years), the truth is ( imo) we are a young side with lots of potential and we seem to be heading in the right direction. Winning the Prem is a dream but i honestly believe its too early for us do that. Of cours i hope i am wrong.

Yes, but I would go further and have a second striker who is operating from more central areas rather than just Son coming in from the flanks.
But clearly that is an option. Today I would have switched GKN to the RW, as he cant use his left foot much and doesn't go around the outside on the left, played Onomah on the LW and asked him to do what Son does, and at least get into the box on the diagonal. I suspect he would have struggled as he is not as two footed as Son. But it would have given us someone in the box.
It would be interesting to see Son from flanks and Kane and Janssen around the box. If we are playing wanyama as the DM, then this should be viable especially if we need a goal badly. Of course, Poch might deem it to be too weak defensively.

It can NEVER be too weak defensively with Wanyama there... How dare you say that

When Kane is fit it will be interesting to see what formations we play but 4-1-3-2 is viable and would certainly suit Jansenn and Kane from what I've seen of them. Still not sure that will get Jansenn scoring though

I have said this before even last season before we got Janssen, i really do believe that Kane would be a even better player if he was played behind a front man. Not many agreed with me then but Janssen is the perfect hold up player and if we can pair him up with a player running pass him we could have a real potent strike force.

Yep. A good run now would definitely give us good grounds for optimism. But so far, we haven't outperformed the Spurs side of last season, and it's important to remember that.

Certainly against the bus parkers I would like to see us go 4-1-3-2 , with Kane paired with VJ. It would give us a lot more potency IMO.
 
If we are talking about playing a strike pair, I'd rather we played Son and Kane together. I don't think Janssen and Kane would compliment each other much.

I think we have on performance but not on accrued points, we were very stodgy at the start of last season too, i'd say our defence is in a more commanding shape now.
 
In retrospect, playing a bunch of kids at NNew AAnfield is intimidating... letting a dodgy deflected soft goal in after 8 minutes... a mighty uphill task.

Winks was impressive and I felt Janssen did lots of things right but was not supported... I was not impressed with the first teamers Dier, Davies, Trippier... disappointed for the 15th time with Onomah... I followed him from childhood, hearing he was the shining light of the kids, he was the one to watch, hold your breath... here he comes... the mighty... ON-OM-AH.... but he is just too relaxed, gets the ball, thinks about a move, thinks twice, turns back, tries a flicSMASHED by a tackle.

But we will be happy if the team as whole is scoring more, won't we?

An interesting alternative would be 3 up with Janssen on Left, Kane CF and Son off Right flank. All allowed to interchange. Eriksen, Wanyama and Alli behind or for symmetry Dembele, Wanyama and Alli.

They have better attacking options than us.

To win Cup games you need firepower, hence Burkinshaw always had a scoring sub on the bench in his time. If you are winning you don't need to use that option but if you are losing than it is better to have someone who knows where the goal is.
 
At the end of the day, we've got a lot of very neat and tidy players and some really promising talents capable of hot streaks but few as yet who will reliably hurt the other side, even in the first team — notwithstanding that we remain very strong defensively. In short, not enough in the way of impact, most of the time. People are still carried away by, and investing too much expectation in the events of last season, in my view, when we had a critical mass of players performing to a consistently high standard over a long period, combined with significant levels of underperformance on the part of the usual suspects. Players like Alli, who could do virtually no wrong last term, are struggling to find the same sort of consistency this time out, and it's not really a surprise that that should be the case. It may pick up again, and I hope it does, but I think it's more likely that we will settle back down around our usual level of 5th or 6th this season. Very much still a work in progress.

Really glad I didn't watch this match. Didn't feel motivated to watch looking at our terrible record at Liverpool and Pochettino's way of fielding weak team in the League Cup. And so it was proved.

So, we have thrown away our only realistic chance to win a trophy this season. FA Cup has become a jinx for us since 1991 while we don't look like winning the CL this season. So, we only have league title to aim for now. Unfortunately, the league title looks much harder to win this season compared to last season.
