OMT - Tottenham vs. Everton

Yeah it was good to see some incisive passing when Huddlestone and Carroll were playing. I wish that they had come on earlier, with Dembele moving forward in place of Dempsey.

As up till then we once again relied far too heavily upon long range pot shots, we had 20 shots on goal today but 75% of them were from outside the area which is even worse than our (league topping) average of 60% long rangers and with Bale not playing there was even less chance than usual of one them flying into the top corner.

we hardly created any decent chances. The problem all season. AVB needs to improve the passing and movement

Oh I know mate, loved it myself and (to be fair) it IS pretty accurate, I keep my criticisms to myself/a mate or two, and publicly tend to put the speccies on and try to see the best!
Ref was soft as brick. There was one 'challenge' on parker in the second-half which Ray Charles saw! As for their first, poorly defended as it was, I think Jagielka nudged Verts in the back and climbed on him.

Ref was just dreadful. Dempsey dived? Iffy, but if you book him for going down with contact then you have to book anichebe for his tumble off walker at the end. Parker gets a flying elbow in the head, nothing. Ref had no control .May be a blessing after all that Bale missed today better two weeks from a slight strain than six months from a broken leg.

Oh and could anyone else see us getting a handball given to us of the game went on another 900 minutes????

Massey wasn't giving us anything either. I don't know if she is any good but that Huddlestone shot that was blocked..... How the hell was that not a corner? By all means she has a good rep but today she was poor poor poor.

Gotta say our own team could have done better but mariner was criminal today I swear he had money on it. Almost up there with that cheat Foy.

Parker and Dembele are not passers! the movement is actually OK, it's the speed of passing/passing vision which isn't there right now. When Sandro plays, the man can see a quick 5-7 yard pass. It's massive. And again, lamenting The Hudd's inability to play other roles well enough to have a spot because his passing is great.

its not you know............when Dembele/Sandro/Parker have the ball, carefully look at how static are the players ahead and to the side of them

There was a moment in the first-half which typified why players don't gamble and move as quickly with Parker and Dembele...Parker had the ball, the play was squeezed into the middle third, Ade started off, the ball needed to be played then, instead Parker held it for two more touches then released by which time Ade was half a yard offside but in the clear. Those are the margins. As for Sandro, he very often had Bale or Lennon to play to quickly. Today, with no natural width, we needed the midfield to simply pass quicker and with higher tempo, but alas they are not built for that. Often Sigurdsson makes decent runs, Ade makes some too, but they require quick, slick passing from the midfield...

I think our movement could be much better but I do agree with Steff that the early ball or through ball rarelyhappen. Parker is the main culprit but Demble is guilty of it too, as is Bale.

In fact Holtby looks the best as far as pass and move but it takes more than one.

I think it was a fair result today, although Spurs could really have done with the extra two points.

Bearing in mind we had three regular attacking starters missing - Defoe, Bale & Lennon - I thought goals would be hard to come by today, but Adebayor & Sigurdsson delivered the goods.

If we haven't created many decent chances this season, how have Ade and Defoe had so many to miss?

Adebayor' only had 31 shots in the league this season over 20 games, which works out at one every 41 minutes compared to every 28mins last season. Not entirely surprising as he is primarily a penalty box predator and without Modric or VdV we don't have anyone in the first team with the ability to consistently feed him the ball in the area.

Defoe is having lots of shots (once every 21mins this season compared to every 33mins last) but the vast majority of them are long range pot shots which is why he's only scored 10 goals from 104 shots this season, compared to 14 goals from 66 shots last season.

I think its why he put Hudd on and took Dembele off. U could argue that Dempsey was the obvious sub, but he is always likely to pinch a goal.

maybe AVB could have gone for it with Thudd for Parker and Ceballos for Holtby

someone like Ceballos for 15mins or more would have presented something unexpected for Moyes and his pre-planned tactics

il never forget season 93-94, Ossie in charge, Spurs Everton and we were 2-1 down with 10 mins left. Cant remember who equalized but a young kid called Darren Caskey got an injury time winner \o/

Wait, are you saying that Hudd on for Dembele instead of taking off Parker made sense from a tactical perspective?

But he has someone like that in Tom Carroll, he just refuses to play him because he doesn't want to play young players or something.

Oh ffs you're not seriously comparing playing a hardened first team star like Moutinho to effin' Carroll?

Maybe the coaching team don't want to destroy the lad's confidence before he's ready? Yes , we could finish outside the CL but the club is set-up to be fine without CL football? Bale might leave? Yeah he might but he may do with CL football anyway and if he does we'll get enough money to buy a whole new team.

I really don't necessarily think throwing the kid in to a high-pressure run of games with an edgy crowd and press scrutiny is the best thing and i would think he'd get a prem loan before he's a first team regular.

Well, they both made way in the end for passers, but initially I saw the sense in it. Dembele is a wonderful player and can make things happen, but we simply needed to use the options which would get the ball moving faster. I could've seen either player being subbed at that moment, it was certainly about Hudd getting on to pick the lock with his passing...

I agree fully about Hudd coming on, would have liked to see him come on sooner. For Parker that is.

For me at least, Dembele sometimes slows us down going forward, but he does so with a purpose. He's looking for space to exploit, opportunities to skip past players and create imbalance in the opposition. Parker slows us down without any real purpose. When we needed a goal we needed more players on the pitch that could do real positive things on the ball, taking off Dembele made very little sense to me unless it was just that he was exhausted.

Worth mentioning that AVB essentially never took off Dembele when we needed a goal earlier in the season, only now in recent weeks has he done so. This has been the time when our schedule has been very busy.
