OMT - Tottenham v FC Basel, EL QF 2nd Leg

Carroll is far too young to judge at the moment. Hopefully he will develop into a great player for us. Next season is a big one for him.

I don't think he is too young to judge. I want us to Clasie who is just a year older than Carroll but is a different class to him and was so two years ago! I hope we get him.

Carroll and Caulker have all played many games for us this season. Townsend is getting great Premier League experience at QPR too and will be back here next year.

Thats three players there who will end up getting capped for there country (not hard but still), they still come through our ranks.

don't think we're gonna be winning the league this season Bullet

Ha ha I know that! I mean focus on the league... surely that is obvious?

By playing Friedel and Gallas I felt we didn't respect this competition, we drifted through games with draws when we could have won them, we squeaked through with last minute goals... I just didn't feel up for UEFA as I didn't feel the club was properly up for it.

I want to focus on our main competition, the league.

The team worked their socks off today, can't ask for more than that. Proud of the way we have gone about this, even though I wish we had rested first team players and played Tom Carroll and The Hud much more in the Europa League - losing to Fulham was a direct result of the EL and could cost us a place in the CL.

:ross: Tremendous Mumorn, cheered me up a bit.

Gutted to be out, would've fooking loved to have won the UEFA Cup again. Thought over the tie, Basel were just better. I probably underestimated them a bit when the draw came out, in hindsight we were always going to struggle without a lot of our big names.

This.
Truth be told I always thought the Europa was a big ask, but (some of us) approach games with a positive spirit and so did I. And so will I in the future.
We could all sit here and catalogue the individual errors but Idcrther move on and hope we can find th fire to holdo to 4th over chelski...

You don't get it do you? I came here tonight and posted a couple of small things. I said nothing other than I hoped it would not deflate our season. Where does that say anything remotely close to what you said above? Seriously, WTF are you talking about? You want a free swing where no-one says anything back? Not even Kermit would...

I can understand that you feel the need to defend yourself when someone makes accusations like that. Just wanted to mention that from the outside it is very clear that those accusations are empty and uncalled for. Even seemed quite obviously fabricated to me.

Enjoyable game to watch and great effort but lost to the better side. One point though was I noticed the lack of any wing play. Seemed concentrated in the middle which played to their strengths. Not too disheartened by the result.

Thanks mate, I need to read that...seriously, I get red mist and cannot be arsed to hide it it, so again, appreciated. Steff

:ross: At least that comment cheered me up!!

Steff too will also claim he had a great game and really put his heart into the match.

Well at least you and your buddies have a clear march through to the final, after Lazio got knocked out you're the only nazi team left in it.

Dempsey: "We showed so much character to score the second goal and then pushed ourselves with 10 men to get to penalties. The players are all disappointed but as in life, when you get knocked down, you have to focus on the next thing. For us, the next thing is trying to finish in the top 4 and making sure we're in the Champions League next season."

Dawson: "It's cruel to go out the way we did. Everyone is devastated because we were all determined to make the semi-finals. You get setbacks in football. We all wanted to win this trophy. We'll pick ourselves up now and get ready for City (on April 21). City is a great game to come back to. I'm sure the fans will be right behind us at the Lane. The fans who travelled out here were fantastic. It's such a shame we couldn't send them home happy."

Daws and walker are amongst the most criticised Spurs players on this board. At least the give a brick about this club. I thought Siggy worked hard today and could see how much it meant to him. Was impressed by young Tom carroll some great tackles and moved the ball well. for ADE there are no good words to describe how I feel about him.

Indeed I just re read the post match omt pages ... The way they just suddenly appeared socking it to another poster rather than expressing our loss in a european quarter final, on penalties too. Does make you wonder sometimes.

Heart doesnt win you football matches. We simply wernt good enough over the two legs. We wernt creative enough, no movement, sloppy goals. These two games just backed up that we have no plan b, AVB is not as tactically astute as we thought, our squad players are not good enough. Simply, we are no better off than under Redknapp.

One of the most melodramatic, knee-jerk posts ever?

Making such judgments after an emotional match isn't the right way to go about it.

Some people on this forum and other forums really tinkle me off. Especially making negative, departed comments about Carroll after how well he played. These idiots who think they're football scouts are usually totally wrong in their predictions of which players will make it, and only base their judgments off youtube videos. Seriously some people need to shut the fudge up and just appreciate when we have a talented young player coming through our ranks, I hope I'm allowed to say that.

*gives big man hug* .. don't worry steff, the majority around here are of the same viewpoint as you.

don't let the negative nancy's get to you! i know how infuriating it can be, i have had to teach myself to simply disregard anything the naysaying brick-kickers come out with.

it involves some hardcore meditation, a nice scotch and a punching bag.. possibly not in that order ;)

give it a try!

as far as tonight goes, we were so brave, i couldn't be prouder of our players and hope that the heart we displayed stands us in good stead for a real push for a top three or four finish in the premier league.

let's get behind the team now lads, more than ever.. every cloud and all that.
