OMT - TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR VS southampton

Not sure about that. Chelsea spent £75 in the January window two seasons ago. We ain't Chelsea and don't have their money, but if we can get Moutinho for around £20m than that's a risk worth taking IMO. But I would prioritise getting a striker personally.

Yeah by paying 50 million for Torres. 30 million too much. So in other words we would need to force the issue by paying over the odds. That ain't happening

No one buys quality in January. Moutinho ain't coming to Spurs and he definitely ain't coming in January.

So if no one buys quality in January then why would it be the Managers fault for not buying last January?

Thats last year. Not many buy in January cos most clubs will have done their dealings in the summer. As we leave it last minute with such matters we always need in January.

The problem is Jimmy, we had people saying how 'brilliant' we were in the first-half when it was actually very average. The diff was, in the second-half Soton clamped Lennon, Gareth looked sleep-deprived for large swathes and Soton decided to show up and fight. So we had to fight for it. The over-achieving question is interesting, and I think we should re-visit in May 2013.

A decent away win at a ground where we have been abysmal.

After thinking on this I may be getting spoilt, "We have never had it so good", to win on an average performance is what the top teams have been doing for years.

We are never going to buy a Moutinho. Levy's promary obligation is to the shareholders.

We're still making do with Defoe and one thing AVB has to be given credit for is his performances (last two aside) as he looked washed up under so called "man manager" Harry Redknapp.

Last season we had a Spurs squad at the peak of their talent. We never made the most of it and Harry Redknapp made poor decisions in the transfer window. As did Levy.

It's not as if we were firing on all cylinders last season when we were missing Kaboul or when King began to tire and we were doing patch up jobs in major positions.

Even United, City and Chelsea would miss the core of their squad being taken out. We ain't Chelsea and when we have these players missing it is going to be tough to scrape results.

12 years I had my Spurs shares. In that time they more than halved in value and I received one solitary dividend payment!

i was at the game and general thoughts are

first half - pretty good, techincally superior to saints, but they were poor (trust me they will go down on that form). caulker looks decent, hudd looked quality but never closed down

second half - poor, clearly playing to hold out for the win (can barely remember us having a shot). i think avb told the players to play like this and i dont know why.

one serious problem we are going to face this season is having no strikers. ade not on the bench and at one point defoe was taken off and we were playing dempsey up front. we will lose games in the future playing like this

I think you pay a premium but that's myth. Chelsea bought Sideshow Bob in a January window. The same window saw Suarez, Torres and Dzeko all move. Say what you want about how those players have turned out and the money involved, at the time every Spurs fan was furious we didn't get Suarez.

speak for yourself! ;)

there's a myth that buying a shiny new striker guarantees goals. Torres and Carroll in particular and to an extent Suarez put the lie to that.

Vertonghen should have been favourite to get to that ball ahead of Clyne all day long at the start of this clip. If I were Sandro, I'd be telling Jan he can pop into Superdrug and fork out for a box of aspirin.

They all went for more than market rate.

I made a thread about not wanting Suarez because of his suspension for biting, and for the handball v Ghana. Mans an utter ****.

Mild digression there. Carry on!

not long back think my thoughts summed up on here already first half looked decent second edgy huddlestone running round like a headless chicken poor lad we miss dembele massively without him all our creativity is down the wings. All in all good day though and 3 points is 3 points, fair play to avb getting players to applaud fans at 90min and chuck shirts in he's certainly showing more passion then redknapp did while sat on the bench in a vegetated state.

And to the two or three blokes arguing over one of the players shirts at the end shame on you! i saw one of the shirts thrown in to which some huge bloke caught it instanly gave it to some kid who from what i could see was no relation to him in fact was couple rows in front of him to then a few seconds later see two fully grown men arguing over a shirt like dogs arguing over the scraps of a table put a downer on it sad fudgers.

They have also used the club as collateral for loans in the past against Tottenham shares and Lewis's primary obligation is to ENIC and the shareholders of ENIC. And it is actually Bahamas registered subsidiary ENIC International that holds the majority share and they are in turn controlled by Tavistock Group.

Their business is making a profit from Spurs, not delivering on the pitch. Tavistock and ENIC have share in everything from Warner Bros to beach resorts to gambling businesses. Oil, gas, country clubs, luxury resorts and corporate hospitality etc...

Just because they ENIC and Tavistock group are the major shareholders in the club doesn't mean ENIC as a company are fans of anything other than making money. They are in the business of flipping businesses for a profit and it is perfectly obvious that Levy has been given the role of squeezing blood out of a stone as far as keeping us competetive is concernced. Anyone with an ounce of ambition would have invested at the last transfer window to secure 3rd slot. To me Levy messed up and I don't care how hard a bargain he drives in the boardroom. he held off and we all paid the cost.

Joe Lewis couldn't care less how Spurs do on the pitch other than qualification for the Champs League where the money is. He's in business, Levy is running Spurs as a business. Let's not pretend they're in it for the love, cigars and a sing-song from the boys they used to stand with in the Shelf.

Hence the fact that no-one cares about winning trophies anymore.

You could say that about all the teams this year. Chelsea have played well but they've had some dodgy results. Certainly Man Utd and Emirates Marketing Project have been wry poor compared to their free flowing best but that's how it goes. Once we get a couple of players in and AVB hasp re time to bed players down we'll be more consistent. In the meanwhile ill take 4th all day long

I missed the Utd game were they "gifted" the three points yet again?

Last season we paid the price for not investing in the transfer window. Thinking we could do it with a Blackburn reject and a fourth choice Everton striker was poor business.

I'm sick of hearing how "shrewd" a business head Levy is. He took a risk thinking that Champions League spot was money in the bank and we left behind one of the best squads we've had in years at the peak of their playing ability trophyless and having to re-build from scratch in the summer.

Clint Dempsey and Sigurdsson are mid-table material. money would have been better spent on one true quality player instead.

mentioned in another thread - all of last seasons top 4 are struggling to play consistently this year and have rarely been at their best but still find themselves in more or less the positions held for most of last season. wonder if the other 3 teams are having the doubts over their manager that we are ?

Well Emirates Marketing Project are. And they haven't lost have they?

Ferguson goes without saying, although he gets flak when they lose still!!

And the media are tossing all over Di matteo when they've spent another 70 million on players in the summer!!

They have the brightest young talent on the country an people seem amazed they are playing ok?!

As long as their ambitions and our ambitions match up, and they largely do at the moment, then what's the problem? Going by owner changes at other clubs it's a lot more likely to get worse than better if we do get a new owner.

The "invest now to get 3rd" argument is as stale as it is a fallacy. Say there are 4 clubs competing for 3rd and 4th. One club spends £15m on players in January, or "invests" as people seem to like to call it. They increase their chances somewhat, but what then if the other 3 clubs do the same? Still only two of those clubs will get a top 4 spot.

The responsible thing to do for a club in our position is to "invest" a sustainable amount where the club can live with that cost without having to qualify for the Champions League. It's not like they are taking money out of the club on a regular basis to line their own pockets, money we don't spend one window is available the next window instead. Spending large amounts of money with a manager that is openly courting another job just isn't smart, from a footballing perspective.

Nope. Harry not to blame in the slightest.

Dempsey and Sig are great squad players for where we are as a club.
