* / OMT - Tottenham Hotspur vs Saudi Sportswashing Machine / *

Adebayor, Modric, Parker, King and van der Vaart were all in the starting eleven last year at St. James Park. The fact I think we outplayed almost a full strength Saudi Sportswashing Machine team on their own patch for 45 minutes is brilliant. Add a creative midfielder, a hold up striker and some confidence and you have one hell of a team, especially with all the pressing too.

You were all over us in the first half and we couldn't have complained had we been 3-0 down, second half you didn't look like scoring at all apart from scraps from long balls into the box.

If you had decent strikers you would have been out of sight by half time.

While I don't agree that Saudi Sportswashing Machine controlled the midfield second half what I do agree with is that this game is a lesson in that you need to score while you're on top and take your chances. Hitting the post/bar is seen as unlucky but the reality is it's a miss. Just a close one. Against a team with such dangerous attackers as Saudi Sportswashing Machine you always know they can score out of nothing at any time no matter how badly they are playing. Saudi Sportswashing Machine ruthlessly punished our two defensive mistakes and despite not creating much else themselves that and our failure to do the same was the difference in what was always going to be a tight game.

The positive is that I think our players clearly bought into AVB's style of play and worked very hard for the manager and on another day we'd have got a point or three. We finally seem to be in a position where the whole club is wanting the same thing. Levy, manager, players and supporters. That wasn't always the case under previous manager and while we had a better team up at Saudi Sportswashing Machine last season and got a point, I'm prouder of the performance this time round.

I haven't felt this connnection to Spurs since Jol was in charge. It's hard to explain but I really like AVB and what he is trying to do. I feel like I really want him to do well and for all the great football and league finishes I never really felt with redknapp we were all in it together and I felt he had a bit of contempt for spurs and our fans. He was there for Harry and nothing else. While that's probably true of most managers I don't need it rammed down my throat so obviously.

I think spurs fans were worried that the players would have liked Harry so much they wouldnt listen to what AVB wanted to do. I think there was acworry we'd see a lacklustre disorganised and disinterested performance like we saw at Chelsea but instead we saw a group of players clearly determined to do what the manager wanted, staying compact and disciplined and controlling our play. It just seemed very positive and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season

But it is annoying we didn't make the most of those chances. Defoe scored 1 but wasted 3 good chances, including hitting the post. I think we missed Parker more than Modric in midfield. Sandro and Livermore did well in the first half but Saudi Sportswashing Machine outplayed them in the 2nd half. It was a very poor defending by Lennon and VDV for their penalty. This is why the attacking players shouldn't be allowed to tackle in penalty box. But I thought it was a soft penalty as Ben Harfa went down too easily. The match was lost after that as we didn't create any chances. The annoying thing was we didn't have anyone from the bench to save us. Kane hardly touched the ball.

Our defending was unconvincing at times especially for their first goal. Friedel always reminds me of Robinson as both doesn't make any great saves or save penalties. VDV was showing Friedel which way the penalty was going to be taken but he chose to ignore it. If he had followed VDV's instructions and saved the penalty, we could have a point in the back now.

Really disappointed we didn't get anything out of this match. Just hope we will get the maximum points from our next 2 matches at home.

I hope that we don't have too many games...nearly made ..not quite just there yet type games...if only we had a player here and one player missing there....

because come halfway through the season we'll be well out of it.

I agree and good post.

What we are ALL frustrated about is not AVB, as we are prepared to give the guy time etc, its Levy not fudging supporting him and giving him the best possible chance to start off the season in good fashion.

My comment maybe unfair on Levy as it depends on the Modric transfer but I was always under the impression AVB will have had some cash to spend and will be supported.

May I also point out that granted the players seemed to buy in to AVBs philosophy but Chelscum was very similar at the start and look what happened there. I guess results and performances will be the pudding and if it aint happening this 'buy' in the players seem to have will be no longer present. And the performances and results will happen once we get a settled squad and the players AVB needs which means Levy needs to work his magic asap.
 
Good luck for the rest of the season by the way, the top 4 is a better place if Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Spurs can get in it rather than the usual tossers.

Agreed. Would wish you good luck too but I'm feeling bitter after yesterday. Will be an interesting season, just hope we can do SOME (ANY) business and stay competitive.

We need to do business as well, we need a centre back, full back and striker as a matter of urgency.

This game yesterday just showed how important very good strikers can be. Ba didn't do much for in the game, but he still popped up with a great goal.

We won't finish in the top 5 if we don't buy at least 1 striker.
