OMT - Tottenham Hotspur vs PSG

We win 1 Europa league trophy and then we end up turning our noses up at the Super Cup. Its bigger than the community shield and it’s not much different to the Club World Cup, the only difference being the Super Cup is competed for by the 2 best teams in the 2 best European competitions.

I would be happy to win it, i would actually be ecstatic. Lets not think we are too good for this trophy, we really have no right to think we are above it.

Yeah, take your point

Such a shame that the club world cup wins you £80m but the supercup wins you £4m.

My neighbour did the Spurs tour at the weekend. He showed me a picture of himself with the EL trophy. If we win the Super Cup, I might go and get a photo of me between the 2 trophies just to wind him up.

My very annoying 54 year old brother, wearing a replica Liverpool shirt and Liverpool scarf, drinking his Liverpool beer, in front of his Liverpool posters and his Liverpool sign, was VERY excited to be winning the Community Shield match, and was loudly proclaiming they "were on for the quad".

He says this quite a lot. "We're gonna win the quadruple" and then later "We're gonna win the treble" and inevitably "We're gonna do the double" and then "We're gonna win the cup" and eventually "We're gonna beat so and so". Deluded twot.

YES we want to win this European Community Shield, but it ain't the biggest deal.

No Doner runner in their squad so we may get a consolation goal, either that or win on pens after digging in for a 0-0.

A "super cup" final. On wednesday 13th of August, 20.00 British time, game being played in Udinese.

Three days later its our season's opener vs Burnley. I say send out the b-team and save our best for when it really matters. Now, if you disagree, please explain to me why the super cup is important and prestigious and why we should field our first team XI.
What will you do when have a CL game on a Weds and a 12:30 KO on the Sat? Which game would you play the 'B team'?

I've come around to the fact that people really rate the Super Cup and that we should field a strong team (I honestly first heard of the Super Cup last year, which some of my friends find baffling, but such it is). My thought process was we should save our starting eleven for Saturday thinking it was a much more important game.

We've got a tried and tested method, which most thought was a good idea. Midweek against a bunch of foreign "pig farmers" we play 11 staff members in the remote chance they might get a result.

Was there a super cup the last time we won a european trophy?

Yes, it's been around since 1973, but as Gutter Boy said above, up to and including season 1998-99 it was contested between the winners of the European Cup and the Cup Winners' Cup.
