OMT - Tottenham Hotspur vs PSG

Daisuk

Colin Calderwood
A "super cup" final. On wednesday 13th of August, 20.00 British time, game being played in Udinese.

Three days later its our season's opener vs Burnley. I say send out the b-team and save our best for when it really matters. Now, if you disagree, please explain to me why the super cup is important and prestigious and why we should field our first team XI.

It's a European trophy! Of course it matters! Would send the gooners into meltdown, with both Palace and Spurs winning two trophies each in one season! That alone is more than enough to make it worth it!

For me id rather our first team so we dont get completely humiliated - of course theres still a chance of that but with it being a European spectacle would rather we lessen the odds at.

And we can rotate a couple of not physically ready for the Burnley game and would like to think we can still beat them at home. Otherwise what chance do we have against anyone after playing a CL game....

If we can't handle a game on a Wednesday, and a game on Sunday already I think that seems pretty ominous. But if we're going to prioritise one, we may as well go for the glamorous European tie to make a statement no?

I haven't seen a minute of pre-season because it's dull AF but here's my team anyways -

-------------------Vic-------
Porro---Cuti---Danso--VDV
----------Sarr--------Palhinha----
BJ------------Kudus--------Wilson
---------------------Richy--------------

Johnson and Richy to score (to get certain members of the Spurs fanbase absolutely fuming): 2 - 1. Another trophy, easy stuff. Wait who are we playing again?

Can't watch it anyway because I'm working / playing actual football instead of just watching it like you lazy barstewards. 3 new first team signings to be unveiled just after we lift the trophy, propelling us to a quadruple once we win the CL / PL / FA cup. Lovely stuff. This football lark is essy when you think about it.

It depends on whether you think winning this trophy (one we are not likely to be playing for often) is more important than 1 of the 38 league games we have. It will only be right if we win both games to many. I would be happy to win the super cup and lose to Burnley as I know how it will get up a lot of people's noses.

Just pleased to see us playing again and to see how we’re setup. We are missing lots of players, but have some squad depth.

After chavski got a result against them, they will be fired up. Can’t see us winning it, but will be a great test. And a platform to perform.

It just feels like a silly little Audi Cup-like thing that no one really gives a fudge about. Win a European trophy, so you get one more match to win another one? Sounds silly to me. I don't think the Gooners will mind all that much.

It would be nice to beat PSG though, obviously.

If we win it it's a meangless vanity trophy just to make money for the EUFA fat cats.
Should we lose it will be a stick to best us with.

Normally I would watch it but it's my birthday and I can't guarantee to be available, and I don't want to ruin my birthday.
How would us lifting another European trophy ruin your birthday?

The Super Cup has been round since the early 70s. Like the old Intercontinental Cup, it has pedigree.

Oh but it would, neither of my gooner nephews have ever mentioned our win in Bilbao.

First time I ever heard of it was last year. Anyhow, if you all say it’s so important and prestigious if we win, awesome!

Why was it set to be played just three days before our league opener though? Doesn’t really sound too serious to me.
