** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton ** Sunday 15 December 7pm.

Err , because he was running on empty after 50 minutes , on a yellow and contributing nothing. He can build up fitness in training and slowly during competitive games. This is his first ever PL start and he's be er played at anything like this intensity before and he's 18 years of age !
Perfect game for him this. You can do all the fitness training you like, but it's not the same as playing an actual game. Have you ever played football? Doesn't sound like it.

Yeah I have to a decent standard , what about you ?
Not that having played the game at a reasonable level has anything to do with it. Jose the interpreter might not like your comment.

National team at youth level, so yeah. I could be fit as a fiddle, but if not playing regularly, I'd cramp up after 70+ minutes. Playing though it, and playing more GAMES, builds up resistance to cramping. Body gets used to 90 minutes of stop start. Just look at how many get cramp when playing 2x15 minutes of extra time. It's not because they aren't fit, it's because the body is 'programmed' for 2x45 minutes.

but they play all day every day for hours

cramp is more about chemical levels, not enough salt/electrolytes in their system, means we don't rehydrate during the game enough

need to pull some Arsenal style water breaks

Yes I understand that but Bergvall hasn't been built up to 90 minutes at the highest level with the intensity of the PL , it's his first ever game !
He was running on empty after 45 minutes , so an hour would have been plenty surely ? That would have pushed him to his limit and then give him a 70-80 minutes or even 90 minutes in the Europa league at a slower tempo or maybe against Tamworth.
He was actually telling teammates not to pass to him in the last ten minutes and was hunched over multiple times. He was exhausted and cramping up continually.
