OMT - *** Tottenham Hotspur v some Scouse team ***

What a game. First time I have been to Wembley where the atmosphere was good from start to finish.

Thought Winks was outstanding. As were the back three, and what a player Sanchez is. Dele looked composed in a deeper role, they were shut scared on Sonny, and our one season wonder was brilliant......again. finally, THAT save was unbelievable from Hugo.

without doubt the best Spurs SQUAD we have had in my 37 years watching Tottenham. Let's hope we can keep our momentum going against Utd next weekend.

It is nice to get our first league win over Liverpool since 2012. This was our biggest win over Liverpool since beating them 4-0 in 2011. We played well and could have scored even more goals. Happy to see us playing well in the league at Wembley for once ! Let's hope this win will give us the confidence to go on a long winning run at Wembley.

Credit to Kane, Son and Alli for the goals. Happy to see Kane scoring his first league goals at Wembley. Too bad he couldn't managed to get the hattrick. Apart from scoring 2 goals, Kane also assisted 1 goal for Son. Son did well to score 1 goal but he really should have scored the hattrick as he also hit the post and wasted another one-on-one chance. Glad to see Alli scoring his first league goal in 6 matches. He badly needed that goal as he was not playing well recently. Thought Llorente would make an impact but he didn't have much time after replacing Kane for the last 2 minutes.

Our midfield played well to control the match even if Liverpool were poor. Winks had a good match as he hardly made a mistake. Surprisingly, Eriksen had a quiet match as he was not involved in any of our goals. Wish Eriksen had managed to get a goal in this match. Too bad our new goal machine Sissoko didn't have much time to make an impact after coming on. Felt Sissoko should have started this match after shocking the football world with his fine display against Real Madrid.

Our defence had almost a perfect match except for the goal conceded. Frankly, that goal was one of the most annoying goal we have ever conceded. We were controlling the match at 2-0 then. Kane then suddenly lost the ball in midfield but our entire defence were too slow to react as Liverpool went on to score that goal. Felt Lloris should have reacted faster for that goal. Apart from that, Lloris played well as he pulled off another world class save to stop Liverpool in the second half. Credit to Trippier for assisting the first goal for Kane. Amazingly, Trippier is now our most creative player in the league so far this season with 4 assists, compared with only 2 assists by Eriksen.

It is great to get a convincing win in the league at Wembley. It feels like the Liverpool jinx was the one stopping us winning the league for the past 2 seasons. Now that we have overcome that jinx, let's hope we will now go on to win the league this season !

Well, ultimately, I eschewed summing it up here in favor of a warm mug of tea and an entertaining afternoon spent on RAWK. :p

But, in the end, there really wasn't that much to sum it up. I said before the game that we should stick to the same game plan we used against Madrid - sit deep, nick the ball off them and counter at pace, possibly playing Llorente up front again to provide an outlet when they tried their gegenpressing during our transitions.

We did that - with Son in place of Llorente, but otherwise, we did that. We sat deep, frustrated them, denied them the chance to play their game and broke with pace and menace when they did give the ball away or present us with a chance. I believe we ended the game with 34-35% possession to their 65-66%, and fewer shots, corners and free-kicks. But we ended up with the stat that mattered - four goals to their one. And we did that looking classy, elegant and perpetually menacing.

In short, we played like we should have done in the past four meetings with Klopp, and this time we were duly rewarded for it. Brilliant game plan, executed to perfection.

Big Daddy Kane was excellent, as usual. Alli much better - I think the deeper role he played today suits him more, since it allows him to escape the attentions of the opposition defenders and build up a head of steam from deep. Eriksen quietly assured. Son menacing, although he was guilty of a few careless giveaways and errant finishes when through on goal. Aurier was assured and purposeful on the left (errors for Salah's goal and towards the end of the game aside). The Davinson-Toby-Sanchez trio were largely impenetrable, as usual. Winks was a terrier - his distribution wasn't as good here as it was against Madrid, but goddamn did he make up for it with magnificent defensive work in front of the back line. Trippier was in control down the right, and contributed with the key balls for the first and fourth goals - his excellent technique was on display again today. and Hugo had one error (failing to come out for Salah's goal), but then made that magnificent save to deny Coutinho in the second half - more than made up for it. Also hurled that magnificent ball out that Lovren missed in the build up to our second.

And Poch was spot on for this game, as he was for the game against Madrid. And Wembley finally felt like home - incredibly loud, rhythmic, relentless. And Maradona got his show, and Spurs got their win, and RAWK got their meltdown, and all is bloody right with the world. :D

Agree with all of that.

I do wonder, considering it's been so obvious how to beat Liverpool for a while now, why we didn't do this last year when even poor teams were. I can only assume at the top level it is seen to not be best practice to chop and change strategies unless the core strategy is truly baked in. Kind of like how Southgate was saying he intended to start trying different formations once we had qualified rather than risking it in a match that means something.

Poch must have always known this would be how to beat Liverpool, and how to compete in Europe. I guess we've seen with Mourinho, they've been in good scoring form, park the bus against Liverpool, and then lose all semblance of fluency against Huddersfield. We may have lost against Liverpool at Anfield last year, but broadly we kept our fluency for the rest of the season. Now, that fluency is second nature, we can be more creative.

Wow lads, I don't half pick the good games to go to. Only now I'm getting my breath back with a deathly hangover after celebrating. I feel so so proud as a fan of such an amazing team, manager and club that's going in a perfect direction. We are a PROPER side now!

Managed to get a picture with shovel hands yesterday too.

Fewer shots perhaps, but we crushed the xG statistic.

The way you present it it almost sounds like based ok stats it was a close game we won by superior finishing. In fact we looked dangerous almost every time Kane or Son got near the ball. The xG stat represents that quite well.

What a FUDGING GREAT WIN??

I heard the line-up and thought WTAF, but again Poch proves me wrong; how much is the big guy learning and evolving? Imagine if we beat Manure next Saturday as well??

I bet @galeforce and @StephenH are still washing their trousers now:D

I've had a good laugh reading through 40+ pages of the match thread on RAWK. Some hilarious stuff on there, but to summarize it boils down to:

- Spurs are not that good
- If they had gotten VVD, they'd have easily beaten us.
- Klopp has no fault in the loss. He's one of the top 3 managers in the world.
- Eriksen, Alli and Winks are inferior to Can, Henderson and Milner
- Pochettino just inherited a good side (but then they repeatedly state that we aren't that good)
- We are just on a lucky streak now. Poch and Kane will go next summer, and we will be a lower table team.

I love that - irrational 'dippers throwing their toys out of the pram.

I went yesterday with a Liverpool supporting mate, and it's the first time he's seen us play for a while. We were sat "shelf side" in the gods. A great view of the whole pitch, the formation etc. He had nothing but praise for us, our movement, our ability to finish etc. For him, Winks really stood out.

You could see, we were SO disciplined defensively, our back three marshalled imperiously, when they had the ball we fell into a back 5 and midfield 4, if they got through the midfield the defence was there to push them down the channels. The only shot I can remember from the centre was the one from Coutinho which Hugo picked out of the top corner.

Liverpool by contrast were all over the place, and because they were trying to attack to get back in the game they were leaving massive holes for us to exploit. I would happily see us have 35-40% possession in every game is we continued to destroy teams 4-1

I think the fact that Poch plied his trade at the back, he "gets" good defending. He knows what needs to be done and you could just see how well drilled we are.

I know you lot probably know this but at the moment, we are good, we are very very good - and for me being a Spurs fan is just brilliant.

more nuggets

We will end up third or fourth and we will be right where we deserve to be. There is very little between us, Arsenal and Chelsea.

if we met City in the Champions League I'd fancy us to go through over two legs.

We played exceptionally well, we seem to press now at certain moments or in certain areas of the pitch rather than all the time. Makes us much more effective.

I was slightly alarmed at the number of times we gave the ball away though in our own half, I counted a good 10-15 misplaced passes.

Something occurred to me which I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere... yesterday we had the tail end of hurricane Brian or whatever it was called... that might be why Lloris' throw sailed over Lovren's head unexpectedly, it may have caught a strong wind which Kane expected and Lovren didn't.
