*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Sheffield Utd ***

An extremely frustrating afternoon became an absolute belter! Here’s my thoughts on it:

every time I think that PL refs have reached ‘absolute zero’ they manage to plumb new depths. SU had him wrapped around their little fingers all afternoon. Crazy.

the fourth official hasn’t got much to do. The first half stoppage time was ludicrously short. On one occasion when their GK was ‘injured’ I got up, went downstairs, went for a wee and came back upstairs to my seat all before he got back up on his feet. That was one of several occurrences of time wasting. Three minutes added on? Fourth official Fail.

the SU fans were determined to blame the ref for their defeat after the game, which I find highly surprising. He really did let them get away with a lot of nonsense.

the SU were starting numerous scuffles outside the North East corner after the game. That doesn’t belong anywhere near our game any more.

it was absolutely delicious scoring those two late goals. It was wild in the South. And virtually everyone stayed behind after the game. Perhaps the celebrations were a little OTT and many of us have been critical of certain other sides (albeit serial offenders) doing similar. It feels so good I’m those circumstances though.

performance wise, we largely struggled today. But we plugged away and ultimately the bench came good and this squad really looks really committed to manager, fans and club. Long may that continue.

a thoroughly deserved three points.

Was you beh

Was you behind me in row 27?

You are right, we did see those games. But I think teams played much better than Sheffield did today to nullify Kane and Son. SU weren’t great. They did defend well in numbers.

We are not yet settled up front. A settled front line, all in sync wouldn’t have needed until the 98th minute. A Kane or another established striker would have made some 1-2s to run through on goal, or finished one of the many many half chances.

I'm not sure, again I've seen games like this where Kanes fluffed his lines, not often mind, but they did happen. And in fairness to this lot, they are also scoring in other games so its not a common theme I worry about.

I actually think SU defended brilliantly at times and stuck to their task

Sheffield attacked well when they did
And defended well

On another day Deki, Bissy and Solomon lash home their chances and SU don't put every limb on the line to nick the ball away last minute.

That said, we get a stonewall pen and we are probably not even having these convos either.

That's why I'm honestly for from worried, infact there was so much that was good to take from today.

Got no proof but I said at 74min we are winning this. The team work was amazing, yea we missed the final but the way the team worked was great. Loved the look of Johnson, wish he had been onside.
How is Bentancur going to get a start the way Biss and sarr is playing?
I think Arsenal and Liverpool needs to play another way against us and we will play our way! Love it!

I see their manager whinging about the added time. "Game management" should be allowed.

Game management is drawing fouls or putting the ball in the corner to keep it out of danger areas. Going down with pretend injuries is time wasting and they got rightly punished for it.

Incidentally, I thought they defended the centre of the pitch brilliantly but they can have no complaints in my opinion.

Thoroughly deserved. We dominated them for the best part of 118 minutes, but heroic defending, toothless finishing and bafflingly poor refereeing denied us the goals. That said, they had a few big chances apart from their goal, so us not getting that clean sheet was fair. But the win - so, so deserved, and what a lovely way to get it.

This new added time policy felt strange initially, but now I wholeheartedly embrace it. So lovely to see their time wasting backfire today. Absolutely brilliant.

Mate I'm a huge advocate for this time added. I've said for years that fans are not being robbed by the cost, it's the lack of actual football or time the balls in play. The adding on of time to games is actually something I applaud 100%

Like you say, game management with ball in play is one thing...wasting time is another

“Game management” is all well and good and certainly has its place in a game but if that is your tactic from the outset then maybe you need to find a different plan. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a manager before this complain at getting yellow cards for wasting time and therefore being forced into actually having to play football.

You can all thank me for the 3 points…. It looked like being one of those days so I lumped £50 on Sheffield United to win at 11-1 just before they took the long throw-in that they scored from…. I couldn’t be any happier to have not won the £550 (although after they went 1-0 up I laid them winning to get my stake back )

0-1 down in injury time

Also we created fairly little, can't remember their keeper pulling off too many worldies. Second half we created even less.
We had 10 shots on target, and their GK made 8 saves. 28-7 shots, corner kicks 15-2 and XG was 1.9 - 0.5. In what way is that a lucky win? It's as deserved as it gets. The time the goals come is irrelevant. The game is played until the final whistle.
Would it be more deserved and less "lucky" if we scored both goals in the 1st half?

I couldn't watch the game, but tried to keep up to date with the score as much as I could (not very often...)

Looking forward to catching up on the game.
