I think some of this is on Conte. Why play Doherty on the right again? Did Conte not watch the Southampton game? Skipp and Hojberg in midfield. There is no link between defence and attack.

I hark on about CM all the time because thats my bias but we don't really have average passers. Like you say they often fail with the basics. Sometimes I think, we try to play like a top side but with lower class players. Take Chelsea they have Alonso, not the worlds best defender, but as a WB someone with real quality in his passing. We ape the same system but we have Royal who i rate, but hes a defensive FB who doesn't have that quality of pass.

Very few of them have worked out but the majority of signings over the last three years have made sense on paper. The only one's that were obviously stupid were signing Hart and giving Lamela away.
