*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Bayer 04 Leverkusen ***

85000 fans turn up to watch a third rate performance. And the real problem is that while the footballing world shrugs and says "typical Spurs", the awful truth is we move on to the next awful night. Fancy training grounds in the end make little difference following another collapse or embarrassment.

We played an entire season with one striker and needed to buy a couple of decent up and coming to ensure we didn't put too much pressure on one alone, again. If Jansen was the one, we also needed a few youngsters as we don't appear to have any coming through the ranks. And we did nothing. fudge all creativity on the bench. Can we be surprised.

How does a club allow itself to have as little creativity as it does?

Completely dogsiht from the 2nd minute to the last.
The start set the tone for the whole match. About 4-5 errors in the first min or two.

It is pretty obvious to me that the way to beat us is put us under a bit of pressure. That's it. Nothing else. We can't cope with it at all. We just go back back back and give the ball to Lloris who punts it over the side line.

not having to waste our time in that utter abomination of football?

Oof. Shame we consider the chance to lift some silverware a waste of time, while bottling it with spineless displays in the CL seems worthy enough to throw away a chance at trophies for.

I have to say Janssen once again offered nothing. I hate to criticize the guy because he has only been in the Premier League 5 minutes. I get service was poor but his off the ball running was poor and it wasn't as if he was able to create anything at all by himself. He has to do a lot more than just hold the ball up. The gulf between him and Kane in terms of work rate, shooting and interchanging with his team mates to open up defenses is huge at the moment. I am dreading Sunday tbh.

I don't think we have the data to conclude that yet, but my gut feeling is that it isn't, I think we all might be readdressing our opinion of Janssen after a few games of Kane getting the same level of creativity behind him. Aguero wouldn't be scoring goals for us at the minute either.

Agree. But what a chance to kick start his Spurs career with a goal against he scum.

we've done this dance before @DubaiSpur we both know how the other feels, and it seems obvious the club have made their decision too

Not with Toby around. We'd probably get flustered, but Toby at the back marks the difference between escaping with a draw and suffering such limp, spineless losses against opposition who (on paper) we should at least be match for.

Spot on. The Janssen purchase was not enough, while the Sissoko purchase was just baffling and not needed. For me Saturday summed it up. Leciester had used all 3 subs before we made one, because quite frankly when you looked at our bench, who was sat there really that could make a difference.

What did Janssen do wrong? He had no service
As I said mate I hate to criticize a player so early on in his Spurs career but the lack of service argument is not enough. To be covering Kane he needs to be able to create chances himself as Kane does. He also needs to be better at anticipating rebounds and balls across goal, his movement needs to be better so he can be in a position to be passed to.

Well the tactic works pretty well on us when Toby is there too. He's just better at cleaning up the mess.

I hope you are right mate.

does Kane really make chances for himself or were the AM doing a better job of making space and pulling defences around last season?

A lot of truth in that. Especially without Toby and Demeble our two most senior players bar Lloris. But even with them, we fluffed our lines under pressure last season, and have been the same this. We came into this game in poor form missing players.

Yet at Webmley in front of 80k odd, a chance to shine in the CL, we whimpered. Have to ask how Poch sends the team out, as we lacked confidence.

Actually I don't agree. Kane makes chances out of nothing. His shots are usually dangerous even if they don't result in a goal and he is often in the right place at the right time. I don't think any of these things apply to a Vincent. I really hope I am wrong and just fudged off about today.

Oh, well, we'll get better eventually. Probably not Sunday though, so that sucks. Can hope for us parking the bus and holding on to a draw.

Still, we're a young side still learning in poor form. We'll get better. Hopefully Poch sees that we need some creativity going forward though. We need someone for Eriks when he's not performing.
