***OMT - Tottenham Hotspur FC v Everton, Sun May 24th, 4.00pm, The Lane***

Listened to that too, and thought it was super interesting. I think RDZ has been so intentional about his public comms and to shift the messaging like this is a clear signal that he thinks something needs to change.

I view it as trying to relax the players over the course of a few weeks, but knowing that there is simply no way to relax them for this game. It’s simply not possible. They will be nervous. And so they have to own this situation, otherwise it will consume them. They’ve got to step into the fire. If he tried to say ‘these are great players, everything will be fine’ before this match it will sound incongruent with reality. He needs to acknowledge it, and then control the narrative and what they do with the pressure.

I think he’s been bang on with his comms so far so I trust him on this. Will be fascinating to see if it works though!
If we come up with an insipid nerve-wracked performance and scrape a draw or lose but still survive because West Ham fail to win would that be acceptable*? I don’t think RDZ would be happy with that, I think he’s demanding the players to show what they’ve got and save themselves.

Edit: Well yes it would be acceptable because it’s better than being relegated, but I suppose it wouldn’t be all that satisfactory is what I’m trying to say.

Anything that keeps us up is acceptable however lucky we might get on the day, that's all that matters. The squad and the mentality will be dismantled in the summer regardless.

I wouldn’t be happy with it but I’d take your hand off for it now. All that matters in the short term is that we stay up.

Longer term, if these boys don’t stand up and be counted and drag themselves out of this mess, it’s hard to see them having a future here next season.

Whatever it takes for us to survive.

There are 9 possible scenarios in total for the two games (W-D-L). Only 1 of those will send us down. Us losing and Spam winning. All other results and we stay.

If it wasn't Spurs, I wouldn't really be worried. But it IS Spurs so.....

Yeah, I kinda feel its inevitable after the fudge ups in the last few games.

Based on our history, I think it’s basically a certainty that we will get a draw and the hammers will win 13-0.

Might even be preferable in a way - we don't want anyone going in to the summer with the misunderstanding that we don't need a top to tail gutting of the squad

Yeah, of course. He wouldn’t be happy. And I don’t think that’s what he’s expecting.

I think it’s a really interesting judgement call. Continue with the ‘low pressure, I love you all, everything will work out because you’re great’ stuff. And see where the cards fall. Or acknowledge the pressure and walk into it.

Nothing is guaranteed either way. We’ll soon find out whether it works. I think he thinks the players need to play with urgency and killer instinct, and using the nerves in the right way is good, but maybe it will end up being misjudged.

We have gotten draws against an inform Leeds and a higher in the table Brighton, and on both occasions silly individual errors stopped us from winning. We should be able to get a draw here. My worry is if Everton sneak an early goal and it becomes about breaking down a low block with our front line….thats going to be a horrible watch.

I think we need 3 goals and we need to come out of the blocks quick. And by GHod we need to take our chances when they come our way.

He really is ramping up the pressure on the squad. I hope he knows what he's doing.

They mentioned on TVFTL that up to Tuesday, he's been super positive but the tone changed on Tuesday where he's now telling the players they are the ones to save the dignity of the club and themselves. He didn't want the coach meet before Brighton and it was widely interpreted that it might add more pressure (as Nicky Butt says it did before Forest) - now he wants it.

I have absolute faith in RDZ but this is ballsy and risky.

Yep. Whether it's the right approach or not, without knowing the personalities and group dynamic involved, I wouldn't presume to say, but all we can do is trust that he is in a position to make that judgment. You do feel it's about time for them to stand up and really be counted.

Who would have thought we would ever be in this ridiculous position, at best we at back to back 17th in the league seasons.

RDZ is correct in putting the pressure back onto the players, they are the ones that have got us into this mess, they are the only ones that can get us out, they need to have no excuses and look elsewhere, they need to do it.
I think you need to look further up the food chain. I put this all on the Owners. Levy did the best with what he had to work with skill-set/owners budget/requirements. He left/got pushed out and a bunch of incompetents stepped in. Poor appointments and a laissez-faire attitude to what we actually are, i.e. a football club who are actually a financial success because of our historic success and potential success on the field. Don't wise up to that fact and you're fucted!

We’re f ucked if we need three goals.

The last time we scored 3 goals in a PL game was against Everton, so hopefully lightning will strike twice and our players will have a full stadium cheering them on when they to do their lap of honour this season 🙏

"And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory." [1]

The above quote from Bill Nic came to my mind when looking at the 9 possible results involving us and the spammers that can occur on Sunday - only one of which would relegate us...

I would argue that there is a 10th option - we draw and spammers win 13 nil.... Now that really would be 'a glorious failure'....

COYS.....please.

I'm not sure we will need to score 3 goals, Everton aren't renowned for their goalscoring and we need a draw - I don't see us conceding 3 to Everton. I think we will do it, but let's be honest none of us have a fudging clue so our feelings/predictions are irrelevant :D

What I will say, is that whilst this has been an absolute brickshow of a season this place has really helped me through it. Some of the comedy on here is brilliant, and can get off your chest as much as you want without real judgement knowing we are all going through similar emotions - I find it more enjoyable than speaking to people in 'real life' about such matters. Hopefully we are all smiling come Sunday evening - See you on the other side :)...
