***OMT - Spurs vs FC Barcelona***

My point wasn't the sub as such it was how we use Llorente when he is on the pitch.

If he doesn't get into positions where it's worth aiming balls at his head, how can everyone else be expected to adapt to him? There's this mantra that we stop hoofing crosses in as soon as Llorente comes on, but really it's because he tends to replace someone who looked more likely to get into a good place.

Was disappointed in Hugo, he made a call and got it wrong. A call imo he shouldn't have had make, there was at least two mistakes before his.
Son was useless.
Davies poor and tripps had some iffy moments.
Still happy with overall display though, as a team.
Son was poor overall, but he did score a beauty, unluckily for him it was disallowed for handball by Trips.

It was a privilege to be there last night and see a world class player run the game, i have seen a few in my time but he is among the best i have watched. As for us we tried ( not helped by Lloris giving them the first goal) after that it was always going to be a up hill battle, we were missing some of our best players ( Jan, Eriksen especially) but we kept going.

Not sure we will now qualify but if we play like we did in the second half we have a chance. Lamela was great and MOM, Kane was not far behind and both Moura and Winks ( last 30 minutes) were both good.

Son has a fai amount of games like last night where he is poor and scores a belter.
Sometimes its worth having him in the side for it, sometimes it isn't. Problem is you don't know until it's too late.
Same with every player I suppose, look at Hugo just now.

If you don’t want to believe Keane that’s fair enough, I don’t see what he’s got to gain by coming out and saying it - he wasn’t trying to make a big thing of it or sensationalise it, just mentioned it during a debate. Poch had his targets at the start of the window,he stated himself - Keanes comments support that, if thats not good enough for you and you thing I he’s lying for some weird reason then fair play....

I just find it hard to believe that anyone outside the top level of the club know our transfer business.
There's to much risk of getting gazumped.

Never seen him live!
I think he is though the best I’ve seen. He makes it look so effortless and just strokes the ball never ‘bashes’ it!
I agree totally with take on the game!

Been lucky to see a lot of the greats live, Best, Cryuff, Platini, Bechabaur, Ronaldo, Zidane, Maradona, Moore add to that the likes of Hoddle, Greaves etc but Messi is up there for sure.

The positions he takes are fine for a target man. It is an adherance to a playing style that is not suited to his strenghts that we fall down on.

So last night our outfield Bench was

KWP
Sissoko
Llorente
Skipp
Rose
Dier

Out of those you could argue we would want to replace Sissoko and Llorente
Our bench should have looked like

Son
Lamela
Sanchez
Dier
Dembele
Rose

Therefore you are booting 2 of those lot out of the squad, we are not as thin as people make out, its clouded by personal vendettas against players in our squad, or making unrealistic comparisons vs other teams.

KWP, Aurier are already in the stands at this point sat with Foyth

Nkoudou and Jansen are at home with Skipp and Amos

Take
Azpilicueta, Hazard, Willian, Kovacic, Moses out of the chelsea team and lets see their squad

In that situation their bench would likely have Giroud, Barkley and Loftus-Cheek as attacking options vs ours of Llorente, Sissoko and N'Koudou - I'd argue there's is better, and that's where 1 or 2 signings could have strengthened our squad - our depth in attacking positions when we have 1 or 2 injuries.

Yet the three players you’ve listed in the Spurs side are more expensive than their Chelsea counterparts. I think the issue is our “bare bones” squad players have been flops and whose to say the 1 or 2 signings we hypothetically made wouldn’t have been 30/40m flops as well ? Grealish for example, does he change the outcome last night?

It's a fair question - I think it is tricky to fill those backup positions, I guess ideally you want younger players who might be a bit more willing to bide their time but who can have more of an impact off the bench than Llorente and Sissoko. Not necessarily easy to find.

Agreed

Chelsea fit team has Barkley and Giroud and Loftus Cheek on the bench

Ours has a combination of Lamela, alli, Son and Moura who I’d take every day Of the week, plus of course winks or Dier or Moussa or Wanyama there too as back ups assuming 2 are playing

Grealish you are right would not change last nights result but the likes of him would lesson the load on e.g. Dele or Eriksen. Giving us a better chance of getting players fitter quicker. Having quality backups for key areas can have a direct effect on situations like last nights lack of ‘quality’ cover.

Not that i care (well i obviously do and ive now had to delete internet history and burn my computer) on basis they play 4-3-3, id say that there isnt a massive void in quality or depth and our benches are the same, i would have liked to see new players in, but i think to say we dont have the same depth as other top 6 (bar city) is wrong

Zappacosta (Trippier)
Rüdiger (Sanchez)
David Luiz (Toby)
Alonso (Davies)
Kanté (Wanyama)
Jorginho (Winks)
Fàbregas (Lamela)
Barkley (Moura)
Giroud (Son)
Morata (Kane)

Substitutes
Hudson-Odoi (Skipp)
Christensen (KWP)
Emerson (Rose)
Loftus Cheek (Llorente)
Drinkwater (Dier)
Cahill (Sissoko)

Better players bolded IMO
