OMT: Spurs v Chelsea Thursday, 8pm at Stamford Bridge

Agreed. Even Jose could apply 3 different tactical systems in a single game. He would train his players that way.

Poch's system was subtle though. There isn't really much difference between Dier dropping in and making the 3 and having Dier to the right of the 3 from kick-off. It was normally Son that made way, allowing Eriksen and Dele to be further up.

Conte was the worst though. He won Serie A playing 3-5-2 and only he knows why he thought that 3-4-3 would work in the PL. I never saw us win a midfield, but saw some great performance from Bentancur. Mostly we were owned in the middle of the parr, then played rop a dope until the middle of the second half. Kane and Son did the rest. That was no solid foundation and no surprise it fell apart.

I'm sensing we're now finally exposing Ange's level as beneath PL top 4 though. Even Nuno is back up there like he was at times with his Wolves side. We'll probably find that most of the names spoken about are an upgrade on Ange.
He won’ the title at Chelsea playing 3-4-3

Not really. He had the double pivot of Kante and Matic, but he kept Hazard on the inside in a free role. It was not so different from Brozovic, Eriksen, Barella with Lukaku / Martinez. It was definitely a disruptor to the PL as the only side that really played with that wingback system. Poch dealt with it though. First time I remember us putting Dier back to the right of Toby and Jan. Walker and Rose then hit Moses and Alonso harder than they've ever been hit that season. Dele and Eriksen did the rest.

I guess the point is that Poch studied the opposition and tactically adjusted to get a win. I've not seen Ange do so much of that. He is that system manager and it's mostly about his plan A.

The system he has played in the premier league is more or less the same with tweaks. I like Frank as a person but his football is horrible and wouldn't want it here. It's also a huge change from Anges style, I want us to be more consistent with our manager choices and their style of play, and not huge changes between managers.

Our next manager appointment will provide further evidence as to whether the higher-ups are truly learning from past mistakes.

We've already seen this season that we're becoming less trigger-happy than in previous years. Appointing a replacement who aligns with Ange's general ethos would be a good sign that lessons are being learned and that there's a long-term vision in place.

We were okaying Ange ball though
Fans may not want to recognise it but we had full backs inverting and crosses across the box
High pressing in a coordinated way too
It’s why Brennan was scoring for example
But that’s died as players were injured and we haven’t seen a spark of it

If that was Ange ball then I wasn't impressed - I thought we were muddling through, producing the right numbers for and against but without really getting close to what it should look like, I was hopeful thar things would fall in to place as the season wore on.

The closest ti Ange ball is Iraola
I wanted him last year and said it on here
Now the more I see of his team the more I think it would be more of the same
His teams are always exposed if you beat the press and his injury issues are vast
What I do like is he isn’t bothered about possession but he also doesnt ever have his team in control of a game

We should have had a lot more for and less against according to the numbers.
But it died when he lost players and he was patching the team up and it’s not been seen since

He hasn't got to be a carbon copy or close to an exact match but there needs to be some kind of joined up thinking. Personally I do think the chopping and changing has been somewhat blown out of proportion - I'm sure if you looked in to it most clubs appoint managers based more on available pedigree at the time as opposed to who's most like the current incumbent

I mean, if we are going to go on a hunt for a manager that plays like Ange, we need our head examining, frankly.

Not read any of the comments in the thread yet...

...what a shallow, soft, guileless and flat effort. Really poor. As for the hand-cupping to ear gesture, so stupid. I have sympathy for him, especially when one on one abusers kick off, but you cannot be doing that and then try and say you weren't...

Tonight more than any other I felt we were between an Angeball and a hard place. Either play with verve and dare to do, or abandon ship and go defensive/on the break. This was the biggest example yet of the psychology being wrong and thus leaving us not really doing anything well. I cannot figure out if he has lost the players; my gut tells me not hugely, but that they are in some sort of self-protection mode individually i.e. want to make sure when summer comes my stats still look solid? I cannot really gauge any other reason for the lack of dynamic intent we showed on the ball for most of the match.

How ironic that the one injured first-teamer - Deki- is so sorely missed. That is no excuse BTW...

I don't think he's lost the players at all and i think he's probably the type of personality that will have the players on his side until.the bitter end, but i do think the players are 'lost' - how they are being prepared/set up just isn't sufficient enough to do well on the pitch consistently

I was expecting a loss. I was pleased we showed some b4lls against the team who I hate more than any other. If we get 11 players sent off and they end up with 11 players on the pitch with no teeth I'm happy. 0 - 11!

I think that's right. The sheer levels of 'safety' versus fundamentally bad decision making is so bizarre. I am about to listen to 'the interview'...I can tell it will be painful. What he did was very foolish!

Interesting as I felt we allowed them by and large to have their way.

He has .. it's not the revolt type of loss of dressing room, it's just pro's likely disillusioned, confused and having run through the proverbial wall once too many times.

Biggest issue is we all knew the result before the game, didn't matter that this Chelsea team is struggling, just like it didn't matter that the only game Leicester won in 10 was against us, or Ipswich, or whoever.
