Hinchcliffe is a classic ex-90s pro who seems to follow the narrative of the plucky underdog working hard. They're desperate for the underdog victory that they then fall into confirmation bias in nearly everything they then say. It's not good journalism.

Yeah Sky shouldn't bother showing their favourites and make Burnley their main attraction.

How the fudge was there only 3 minutes added after all that Toby bandaging time? Then ref plays two and a half anyway, while we're breaking forward?
Few standouts for me
Tanguy was great but still made some sloppy passes
Kane was decent as was son
The two CBS IMO won their battles
But Hojdjberg was outstanding again @milo
Pressing, chasing, passing. Immense
And I say that as one that didn’t want him

I’ll add that Davies and Doherty were a average to poor but their men never did that much 1 on 1 against them so maybe it’s an over reaction

Hugo took every corner he could too

I agree with most of that and Hojbjerg was my motm as well.

I'm with Pirate and Bedford on this one - I thought Davies was playing as a traditional attacking full-back, same as Doherty. See positional data here (from Whoscored):

Also Davies attempted 5 crosses, vs Doherty's 4.

I genuinely think you might have been mistaking Hojbjerg for Davies at times? I noticed Hojbjerg was regularly dropping into the left-back position to make a back three, rather than Davies.

I've watched the extended highlights again, I think that we were tucking our opposite side fullback in tight but that their better chances came down the right, so Davies is there more, with Doherty tracking his man.

Are all occasions when Davies is very close to Dier. His runs when we lose possession were all back to a central position but Doherty's tended to be too.

And we had son and Moura defend wide when that happened

It definitely wasn't a full wonky or the same as we did last season. Doherty played a lot deeper than Aurier was in that system last year but his average position was more advanced than Davies. Davies was playing a lot closer to Dier and Dier and Alderweireld shifted across during some passages of play. I think that we were trying to keep the three of them close out of possession to minimise the risk from Burnley's high balls.

Still waiting for you to post the heat map you promised to back up your statement about Davies' positioning. Did you see the one posted earlier? I think it was by Eltrev. It clearly showed both Davies and Doherty playing traditional full backs In a back four.

They had one chance from a set piece. Everything else was speculative.
Not true Deano Austino, they had 2, as I stated.
At ~55 minutes Tarkowski had a free header from 4 yards, from a corner, when Dier lost his run and was beaten.
At ~70 minutes Tarkowski had a free header from 4 yards, from a corner, when Hojbjerg was beaten but Kane cleared it.

Burnley are very good at maximising this sort of scoring opportunity.

TBF the 55 minute one he got under it abs made what would be a great clearance rather than an effort on goal

Steve, can you test BedfordSpurs' assertion that Wood/Barnes did not win many duels with Dier/Toby.

Also, can you look at how many saves were made? I know Lloris saved a few long rangers fairly easily, but what shots did Pope save?

Pope saved 2 shots I believe
One from Lamela and one from Lo Celso
They had 4 shots on target
3 long range ones and the header cleared off the line

I'm not sure that's the best diagram to use for this.

That shows actions, compared with a heat map which shows position. If he tucks in when our front 4 have the ball, that wouldn't show on the Whoscored map.

Not that I can remember what the fudge Davies did last night other than turn around and pass the ball back.

According to football365.com he holds the PL all-time record for number of back passes don't you know.

Okay I made that up but if ever there was such a category he'd surely blow the rest right out of the water.
