OMT - Spurs v Arsenal

To be perfectly honest, they had a couple of chances to win the game too, but they were incredibly sloppy today. Martinez had a great game and probably saved his defenders' blushes but we shouldn't forget that we hardly had a look during the first twenty minutes of the second half. We looked better in the final 15 minutes, but that's because our pace makes us more dangerous when the opposition commits a lot of players forward.

On a side note, I was pleasantly surprised by Dixon. He was one of the players I hated the most, back in the day, but he sounded a lot more articulate than Neville (though that's not saying much). Now having said that, who's idea is it to invite a former player from one the teams on the pitch to serve as a pundit? It's ridiculous.

For me, the best thing today was that it looked like Mourinho did try to correct a few things offensively. Our passing was slightly sharper and our movement off the ball, though hardly great, allowed us to work some space now and then. Tactically, when it comes to nullifying their strengths, he got it mostly right and that's probably what made the difference today.

On the minus side, some players in our team don't look like they belong in a Top 6 team and yet Mourinho doesn't feel confident enough to replace them. He might love all the players at the club currently, but he's acting like some of them will never get a game.

All in all, a win's a win and it might help our confidence in the short term but it's all pretty 'meh' to me at the moment. Let's see if we can string a run of results until the end of the 'season'.

No crowd is real downer. usually I'd be buzzing after that today, it was just a shrug of the shoulders and move on.

I got a massive buzz from it, was like a shot in the arm for me, I’ve pretty much hated the PL restart until today.

The amount of arsenal fans that came up to me and told me they were going to stuff us was very strange. I kept telling them apart from the top two and bottom 5 the league seems pretty evenly matched to me. I consider that a good thing.

Goingbto enjoy work Wednesday when i work with 2 of them.

It's hard to accept and get used to, but I think having spells of the game where we accept having less of the ball and defending deeper is part of the plan for Mourinho. I'll gladly admit that I thought we had to make some changes in the first 15 minutes of the second half, but Mourinho persisted. I think he knew Arsenal wouldn't be able to keep that up for the full half. Of course he also knew that we had significantly less rest so going toe to toe with them for intensity for 90 minutes would have made the last 20 minutes really dangerous.

We did that at times with Pochettino too. Defend well, try to get in on the break. We seem to do it more now, but with the players available and having watched us fail to press successfully for a very long time I'm quite happy with this approach.

I agree, I was dreading the game, first time for a long time. It wasn’t like the Emirates Marketing Project mugging either and whilst there is still a long way to go there were positives about the set ups and individuals performances, whilst the areas for personnel improvement remain obvious. It’s a bit easier to be quietly satisfied / remain aware of the bigger picture after winning, but I’m sure the feeling wouldn’t have been replicated for the opposite, on here, by the Goons and by the media.
The other thing is it hopefully gives us something to fight for until the end of the season. The last thing we need with this group is for them to not have anything to play for.
 
I honestly don't get the angle the press and pundits having been coming with. We at the very least should have been ahead before they even scored.

Their man of the match was their keeper, Lloris definitely wasn't ours. We had more shots on and off target and more dangerous situations. Where the idea that Arsenal were hard done by comes from confuses me.

I think lots of people (fans, pundits and journalists alike) are overly swayed by possession.
