OMT Spurs - Fulham

Terry, the odious clam, was close enough beforehand. He was always going to be a great player. I wasn't that familiar with Carvalho but he clearly was massively talented and had won a CL before he joined Chelsea so was a mainstay of that Porto team. Do you really think he can turn Sanchez, Toby and Dier into what Terry and Carvalho were?

I wonder who put Carvalho into that Porto team...

I think that is clearly not the case, the attacking game plan is to score on the break, like the goal Son should have scored in the second half last night, like the goal he did score against Arsenal, or the ones we got against Southampton, United etc.

Fulham didn't look like scoring last night, they scored when both CB's fudged up, Dier needs to make that header, it was basic, easy, but he fudged it, there is a similar circumstance to pretty much every goal we have conceded of late, our problems are mental not tactical.

We've done this dance before, I can't be bothered to do it again. I am absolutely convinced, that this style, minus the mistakes, will win us the league. We fix this in the classroom and on the psychiatrist's couch, not on the chalkboard.

But what you’re suggesting here is that our strikers have little margin for error because they pretty much have to convert an abnormal amount of chances and our defenders cannot make mistakes. If that’s what it takes to make the system work, we’re screwed because the law of averages will continue to bite us. Players aren’t robots and they will make mistakes and miss chances. If this is Jose’s plan, he’s not being fair to the players.

This gameplan will never win the league with these players. It's not a comprehensive system it's cowardly and relies on the opposition having off days.

Forces the opposition into an off day.

We still did good things last night after taking the lead, we created chances from which goals should be scored 99% of the time, sadly Son had a bad day.

There is still margin for error, but we need to move them from making loads of fudging errors all the time, to one or two between them in a game. I don't think thats unfair.

Defence wins championships.

Not in this day and age.

Look at the attacks of the teams outside the top 4 in this league compared to the absolute dross in the league when Mourinho won his first two leagues with Chelsea - night and day, too much talent on and off the pitch across the league these days to let opponents have the ball and have them not hurt you.

Basically yes, get a goal, defend well, score on the break if we can, the clean sheet is everything.

Defence wins championships.
Quite scary that the favourites to win the league this season have the best defence in City. Although everyone sees their attacking threat they have kept so many clean sheets

If your opponents don't have the ball they can't hurt you >>>> whoever makes the least mistakes wins

Outdated philosophy
Brighton had plenty of ball yesterday
City defended well
What city did do was keep the ball at times like you say
We can’t do that with certain players.,, not their Jose favourites so they always play

We have problems, it is not fair on Sissoko digging him for being picked, this is classic Mourinho.
Sissoko does his best and is big-hearted and I love that.
But he's not a right attacking forward bless him.

He is perfect to play CM vs top sides if were not going toe to toe
He is great as a sub where we’re head like he did vs Leeds
He is not capable of playing in a team that has the ball I’m afraid. He lacks passing range and vision so everything is too simple and slow

Horses for courses, correct!
What the Portuguese for that? Cavalos para cursos apparently

We're never going to have the ball for the whole match. Sissoko performs to his brief and is a viable CM choice whoever the opponent is, as long as the rest of midfield is balanced accordingly. It just goes to brick when he's deployed as a RW attacker - again, it doesn't really matter against whom.
