100%. They got Eze, we got Xavi. One is ready to go and just won them the game, the other isn’t and didn’t.

Tells you everything.
I said to my boys before the game it wouldn`t surprise me if we lost 3-0. I don`t mind losing to a better team but that was woeful today.
I blame our recruitment over the last few seasons. We constantly pay for players that we hope are going to blossom but they rarely do. The established prem players we buy we massively over pay for them. Examples are Richarlison and Solanke. And unless you are prepared to pay 120m how do you get someone anywhere near Kane or Son up front for goals? And if there were any such players available would they come to us? Probably not.
Every player we had on the pitch today in every position theirs were better

Vicario Raya
Calafiori Udogie
Timber Spence
Rice Bentancuar
Eze Simons
Trossard Oderbert
Saka Kudus

And the rest.Their bench was way above ours as well. The gulf in the recruitment is frightening. I dont think any of our players would get in their squad let alone start a game. Would you pick any of our centre backs over theirs? Does anyone on here realistically think Thomas Frank will make us top 4 contenders with our current squad. It might pick up a bit when Kulu Maddison and Solanke are back and we can rotate a bit more.
It shows how far behind europes elite we are when we take players like Paulinha who I think is one of our better performers this year but he couldn`t get into the Bayern team. Same for Muani from PSG.

it will be interesting to see what line up TF puts out against PSG on wednesday

I think against PSG we may try and play kinky in defence because he can pass
Then we will have destiny, VDV, gray, Romero, Danso and Porro in defence
Palhina in front supported by .. Bentacur
And then 50 yards to the attack lf RKM and Kudus

Well, I think they valiantly tried to do what he was asking them to do, but it is not what any of us want to see. I think he has to be careful with the dressing room now.
Nah Sorry Steff, those players, Palhinha aside, didn't do anything "valiantly" today. I don't think it's fair to lay everything at TF's door. The players were diabolical to a man today. A few need to have a boot up the a*se.

In hindsight we probably should've been less defensive from the go. But perhaps we thought Udogie and Spence would get more space and cause more trouble going forward, which was hindered by excellently set up, relentless pressure from that other lot. Can't do anything but (begrudingly) applaud how they crowded out any effort from our wide players in the first half.

Our movement, intensity and passing precision was as poor as theirs was good, which obviously didn't help. But we would've had to play on a high level to cause them any meaningful trouble; a level we're currently not capable of reaching for a sustained period of time.

There's probably many reasons for that; missing key players, a team in transition, tactical choices, to many inconsistent players, etc.

It was a bricky game, but as it stands we were always going to need our share of good fortune to get something at their place. Which we didn't either. The deflection caused that forst goal and how the second wasn't disallowed I'll never know. Then we made our own bad luck with some questionable positioning.

See this is where I say we shouldn't be aspiring for the top 4 this season. This is the season we should be trying top finish top half and see where we go from there.

Over the past 3 seasons worth of home games we’re 10th on the form table, so guess we shouldn’t be surprised that this negative spiral is yet to be arrested and can but hope that we’ve reached the nadir so that WHL might become a fortress again before the end of this decade.

100%, if Havertz hadnt had got injured the day we wanted to finalise Eze, Arsenal would not have gone for him
Should've got it all sorted ages before that. Once we knew the fee and Arsenal were focusing their funds on getting Gyokeres that was the time to get him signed.
Odds on he would score today, didn't think he'd get 3 mind.

Speaking to us afterwards, Thomas reflected: “It’s tough, a painful day in every aspect. I 100% feel the pain. I understand all the fans feel the pain and especially because the performance was not good, which is disappointing.

“It was not what I expected. I was actually extremely confident going into this game that we would be competitive. I knew it would be tough in every aspect. I didn't say we would go here and just completely dominate, but I knew we could be competitive, which we weren't on the day, unfortunately. I can only apologise for that. It's my responsibility in every aspect.

“Especially first half, we wanted to go more after them, but we never really managed to do that, to get close enough, to put on the high pressure and when they went long, to win the second ball and play from there, it was too few occasions.”

Thomas agreed that the goals – especially the goals either side of half-time – knocked us for six. “They had the ball a lot in the beginning of the game, but they didn't create a lot,” he said. “Then, the first goal came and after that, if you can avoid the second one and get to half-time, because we know in games that there can be very tough spells, but if you get through them and then you get back in the game a little bit of momentum, but we didn't manage to do that.”

As always, there is little time to reflect – football moves on quickly – in our case, a trip to holders PSG in the UEFA Champions League at Parc des Princes on Wednesday evening (8pm UK). “Yes, but as I say, 24 hours rule - we need to be disappointed, painful, suffer, and then we need to move forward again,” added Thomas. “That's the only way, I think, that is stand up again, go forward. You have a big hit. You need to show resilience and go again.”

Look we have a settled (injury free 🤞🏽) back four this season, we just need to stick to it, play one holding player and then a runner next to him (like sarr, Gray, or Bergville) and pack the rest of the team with the most creative players available....and play and attacking strategy and pass and move the ball...its not rocket science.
Like GHod use to say treat the ball like a diamond and don't give it away....or something like that.
Everyone would give TF some leverage if he built on that...not on what we are seeing at the moment... negative defensive football.
Like I keep saying It's not about the quality of the players right now, it's about the style of play... players can be upgraded later, I think everyone accepts that.
To say we don't have quality players is a red hearing, we are a poor footballing side because of the way we are being set up to play.
I don't know about anyone else, but every time we score a goal in the Prem, I'm happy and surprised by it, rather than expecting it to happen because we are attacking with positivity or shape.

I can't really. You're going ot have to appreciate it for yourself.

Early on under Frank we were just going down the flanks. Bentancur not taking the ball or turning. Now, we start to to a bit. It's not perfect, but there are signs we are working on it. And from about 50 mins today and in spells in other games, you can see an improved ability to pass the ball through the midfield.

I will politely say I disagree with you and leave it there.

As for 'from the 50th minute today -at 3-0 down- I finally saw us play 'a' ball through the middle, so strictly speaking I suppose that is 'improved ability to pass the ball through the midfield'...see, I can be positive!!!!

Slim pickings there atm unfortunately - we sorely lack creativity in the middle of the pitch and it is only heightened by the absences of Maddison & Kulusevski
But if you choose not to play the creative players your left with no creativity and run the risk of the opposition just steam rollering you
Monaco did it as good as anyone I’ve seen in that they didn’t bother with any defensive cover

Oh I disagree, for 30 minutes they valiantly tried to repel wave after wave to attack. They also tried it against Bournemouth and Chelsea also to name two similarly pathetic performances.
It is Frank's job to get at least a performance out of them. They looked like a side bewildered by their remit. Were they good? No. Were they sent out there with the confidence to try and win that game? Not to my eyes. I have to also say, minus points in his post-match presser for flagging the 'finished 17th last season' statistic as some form of mitigation. Cheap, especially this early.
