**Official Other Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

Re: **Official Other Teams & Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

Great result for us! Moutinho was a bit crap, but then Portugal weren't good generally.

Gerry Armstrong was on Talksport today saying a draw would be a great result. Well done!

My opinion of Moutinho is that if he wanted to join us he would not have travelled for an away game on transfer day.

Should be a gay old time in the Concacaf Crucible Tuesday night. Canada visits Honduras needing only a tie to advance to the final six-nation round of qualifying. But the game is being played in one of the world's most dangerous cities - San Pedro Sula, in the decrepit Stadio Olimpico.

This is one of the most bizarre sections of world football, where, in it's Central American nations, decorum and sportsmanship have yet to be discovered. Or imposed. Canada won on Friday, beating Cuba 3-0 in Toronto. Cuba only put 11 names on the game sheet. The other five players they brought all defected to the US. Many are now familiar with Mexican fans throwing bags of urine at players or throwing bloody chicken heads or pigs feet at the rival bench. Earlier in this four-team group's play, Canada went to Panama where a raucous street party, sanctioned and promoted by the Panama Football Federation, went on all night outside the team hotel. Booming fireworks going off outside the upper floor windows. Videos aplenty on youtube:

Would you get away with that in Europe? Panama won the match 2-0. Early on, after Canada were settling nicely and threatening several times, half the stadium lights suddenly went out. The Panamanians went into a tactical huddle while light was being restored. Their changed tactics produced better play and a 1-0 half-time lead.

Canada has only qualified once for the World Cup - beating Honduras 2-1 in September, 1985 to advance to Mexico '86. The Hondurans were made to travel all the way to Canada's most easterly point, St. John's, Newfoundland. Over the course of three plane flights - the last two on Air Canada, a major sponsor for Soccer Canada - the team's playing kits were lost. They managed to cobble together new kits, but their players had to play the game in new shoes, never a good thing. Still carrying a grudge over that.

Which means tonight's match in Honduras will be a potboiler. No doubt, even wilder disruptions will be carried out pre-match. San Pedro Sula has one of the world's highest murder rates - about 1,200 murders last year amongst its 700,000 people. No idea if Wilson Palacios will suit up, pack heat or defect.

Lost 8-1 :ross:

Lost 8-1 :ross:

From CTV's website:

"Substitute Iain Hume scored a consolation goal off a nice free kick in the 77th minute before Bengston restored the six-goal cushion as the Canadian defence crumbled around him. Costly then scored on a header to complete the rout."

A six-goal cushion's quite a thing to have, I suppose.

Sigh. Onwards and upwards.

Dempsey scores some scrappy goals, but he's always in the right place at the right time.

Went to pieces in a hell hole stadium.

Had Canada gone through to the next round, we would have seen the red maple leaf shirt being worn for the first time ever by Jonathan De Guzman(brother Julian is starting DM for Canada) and Junior Hoilett. Both born and raised in Toronto, spend their summers here, but both hesitating to commit due to possibility of playing for Holland(JDG) and Jamaica(Hoilett). Thanks for stepping up, boys.

INTERNATIONAL ROUND-UP - WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS

A0859.jpg

There were highs, lows and a postponement for our players on World Cup qualifying duty on Tuesday night.

Hugo Lloris led the way by saving a penalty as France scored a 93rd-minute equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw against World and European champions Spain in Madrid - ending Spain's run of 24 consecutive wins in qualifying matches.

Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele started as Belgium toppled Scotland 2-0 in Brussells. Jan completed the 90 minutes, Mousa was replaced at half-time as Belgium stay top of Group A.

In the same group, Gareth Bale put in another full shift but Wales rarely threatened in a 2-0 defeat against Croatia in Osijek.

Gylfi Sigurdsson started and played 90 minutes as Iceland lost the top-of-the-table clash in Group E 2-0 against Switzerland in Reykjavik.

Jermain Defoe was named in England's starting line-up but will have to wait until Wednesday after Tuesday night's Group H encounter against Poland was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the National Stadium, Warsaw. The teams try again at 4pm UK time.

Like saying Tottenham are the biggest club in Tottenham?

Re: **Official Other Teams & Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

Let's be fair. If our stadium had been renamed some tacky internet name and was restored as White Hart Lane we'd be happy too.

And until we find the sponsor of our new stadium we should be careful of throwing stones. I'm still backing Tata Stadium for us.

Re: **Official Other Teams & Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

In 2009, Martin O'neill chose to sign Heskey instead of Falcao. Since then, Emile scored 15 club goals & Falcao 133. Contrast.
