I agree KWP could handle Villa but Sissoko might end up need shoeing into our starting eleven. Something I didn't think I'd ever say but it's currently worth considering.

I think that you have to give the specialists in the position a chance first. Especially, when you have a young player who has been waiting a long time for an opportunity to get a run in the side.

Lloris

Sissoko Toby Verts Rose

Winks Ndombele

Son Eriksen Moura

Kane

That still leaves good quality on the bench in terms of Lamela, Sanchez, Dier, Davies and Gazzaniga. I know Sissoko isn't a RB but compared to Aurier or KWP at the moment it seems he's the best option.

I'm thinking of rewatching the Champions League final. Aside from Ndombele I can't see the team being much different. We had a fully fit squad for that game. I'm also keen to see other than the flimflam penalty, what went wrong. Kane's lack of match fitness, definitely but there was more going wrong than that.
Don't do it to yourself. Just leave it and forget it.

Expect to see:

Lloris
KWP, Toby, Verts, Rose
Winks, Sissoko
Lucas, Eriksen, Lamela,
Kane

Suspect that Poch will feel that Ndombele is not ready to start in the Premier League yet and will bring him on for Winks in the 2nd half. Down to bare bones really unless we sign anyone by Thursday who is fit enough to play, which seems unlikely. Bench likely to look similar to end of season last year with Sanchez, NNdombele, Gazza, Skipp and other youngsters unless Dier, Aurier or Davies are deemed fit enough for the bench. This also assumes that we don't sell anyone before Deadline day!

Lo Celso and Sessegnon in the stands and a super strong XI on the field. Buzzing for the new season to start. Obviously, that bench looks short, but if you put Lo Celso and Sess in for Nkoudou/Parrott, you're looking at a very strong squad IMO.

------------Lloris---------
KWP--Toby---Jan----Rose
---Ndombele--Winks---
Lucas---Lamela---Sonny
---------Kane----------

BENCH: Gazza, Aurier, Sanchez, Sissoko, Skipp, Nkoudou, Parrott
OUT INJURED: Dele, Davies, Dier
OUT SOLD: Onomah, Wanyama, Eriksen,

Sissoko or Winks?

Or if Eriksen is sold, who plays instead of Son? Even if we sign Le Celso for example, its tough to ask him to play right away. Maybe Winks and Sissoko with Ndombele playing further forward should the Dane go.

Winks has to play, we need someone who can receive the ball off defence and dirext play from deep.

I have a feeling Sissoko and Winks will start with NDombele coming off the bench.

It shows how short we are for attacking options when a couple injuries (Dele, Son) leaves us scrapping the barrel and having to put a kid on the bench.

Think we'll either have Eriksen, GLC or Fernandes available, though possibly not starting which accentuates our problem, but think we'll take a real risk if we dont replace Llorente. Not an easy task granted, but surprising that we can't find anyone who meets our criteria. Would take another player at the end of their career like Llorente

I watched Villa's game away to Leipzig Saturday just gone and if we don't beat them, then I'd have to conclude that we're in for a difficult start to the season... They weren't that good on the ball and other than for a few counter attacks that the German side's amateurish defending helped to make look even better than they actually were, I didn't see much that should worry us.. They have a free kick-taker, Hourihane, who scored two goals from dead ball situations so we will have to make sure that no cheap free kicks are given in our third..

Heaton their new goalkeeper had to make numerous saves, decent ones too..I expect both Kane and Lucas to score...

Or, you can't take any real clues from a pre-season game and they could be super fired up for a return to the hallowed ca$h cow of the Premier League and the first game can have no real bearing on how the season pans out.

Villa have some quality in the side, notably McGinn and Grealish, so need to be shown some respect - but they also have had massive upheaval to improve their team and so should be very beatable while they arent totally integrated.

Truthfully they should be very beatable even when settled, they have a Championship squad.

Problem is, of course, early season newly promoted sides tend to play above themselves.

Ah great.

It's not like I live in Brum so have to deal with these midlands types spouting about the glory days of being the least brick team in a 30 mile radius and now you've gone and done this. Writing not an OMT on a clear OMT post is like walking in to the high stakes drug operation undercover wearing a t-shirt that has "not a cop" written on it.

Spurs 11 (Lamela with 10 as no one told him it was competitive, Parrot with the other) Villa 12 (Heskey with all 12 assisted by Hutton for all - Dream team combination comes outta nowhere despite them signing 15 other fudging players this summer)

Hasty edit - Forgot to mention, brick OMT by the way.

Didnt you used to live up our way in Liverpool a few years back?

Yeah I understand it's a pre season game and all that entails but there's still snippets of info to be had? ..

Anyway, what I heard from the match commentator and from what I read on a Villa fan forum, most of their starting line-up against Leipzig, would be starters at ours. Yes, they will be fired up for the game but I'm just saying I wasn't overly impressed and can see our forwards getting a couple of goals against them which I'd expect, should be enough to beat them..

Villa spent large chunks of the game parking the bus and when ventured forward, were suspect on the Leipzig counter with their defensive line all to often looking confused... They only conceded the one goal due to poor attacking play by Leipzig and the good goalkeeping of Heaton..

Whilst I don't us expect to win the league, I want the unlikely possibility that we can win it, to be with us for as long as possible. For this to happen, we do need a good start as both Emirates Marketing Project and Liverpool are monster point builders and will set a fearsome pace. We also play City and Arsenal in our opening four games so any points dropped against the likes of Villa I should imagine, will result in both Pool and City being out of our sight by the end of September, which for me at least will be a bit of a downer..

They deserve our respect as do all our opponents but I agree with you, that with all their changes, it's probably a good time to play them..

It's true, newly promoted sides filled with optimism find that extra yard in their first few games, but it's up to us to put them in their place, show them the realities of what a top PL team is all about.
