That's amazing. Reminds me a little of the Scarlet's Way version of Bobby McGee. Same feel good vibe.

This is the Surrey singer I've just started working with. She wrote this song that we played it in our set last night in Camberley.

I played it live last night but had to layer the piano and the hammond together to create a gigging sound. In the studio they were recorded by professional musicians and each instrument would be recorded separately. That's the version on Spotify and YouTube.

I actually wish I could play Hammond as well as these pro's. lol, work in progress.

You are a professional musician. Good keys in this vid, but I'm sure I listened to a few tunes you posted on here and they were fecking brilliant. IMO it is only about technique to a point (and your technique is fantastic btw) and then it is about music.

Who are your keyboard idols?

I get where you're coming from. I do play with a couple of guys that make their full living from playing music and they tour with names we'd know. To me, that is the professional definition. I guess teaching is sort of another category.

As for idols, I'm old school I guess. Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder and Neil Sedaka were definitely 3 of my faves. Jerry Lee another and drifted in and out of Elton. As I've got into playing music myself I think I have a higher appreciation for all those synth players like Vince Clarke. That's a different skill.

I think most keys players would also admit that playing Hammond is a different skill even again. I'm on that journey to becoming a better Hammond player but don't have a 2 tier Hammond organ and a Leslie speaker like Booker T. I just have a Hammond keyboard. Loads of fun though.

That is so interesting. I play guitar, but all guitars and styles are not the same, obviously. Ronroco to Flying V. Why would keys be different?

I guess some of the playing styles relate to the genre you're working in. I guess the big difference is that the standard keys work isn't just one instrument when you break the song down to it's component parts. I'd be playing the strings, the pads, the synth, the piano, the hammond etc all in one song at times and on one or two keyboards. It's about splitting the octaves down and building all of the layers whilst changing the patches on the fly. Sometimes the genre or song allows you to play just one instrument.

Then you have the playing styles, just like the guitar. Hammond is very right hand dominant as the left hand is constantly changing the drawbars, the leslie speaker tweeter, portamento etc to create those amazing sounds. Very different from the 80s synth work with things like arpeggiators in play as well as the strong synth sounds. It's a different skill.

You'd love the guy I'm playing with tonight. Proper Nashville style country guitarist. I always enjoy working with him.
